Groundworker Squad (Solar Farm Ducting Works - Price Work)

Location: Wickwar, Gloucestershire

Rate: £10 per metre trenching price work

Job Overview:

William Hynes Energistics is seeking complete groundworker squads for trenching and ducting works on utility-scale solar farms.

Each squad must consist of:

• 2 x CPCS or NPORS-qualified plant operators (excavator drivers)
• 2 x ground-based operatives, either:
• 2 groundworkers, or
• 1 groundworker and 1 hard-working labourer

This is labour-only price work paid at £10 per metre, with plant and fuel supplied by us. The trenching scope involves LV and string duct installation, using excavated spoil for backfill — no sand required.

The work is extremely straightforward. Previous solar experience is not required and we prefer to train squads to our standard, as we uphold the highest quality control in the UK solar industry. We are not just looking for workers — we're building long-term delivery partnerships with high-calibre people.

Key Details:

• Straightforward duct trenching work - all spoil backfilled (no sand)
• £10 per metre - price work only
• Plant and fuel supplied by us
• All work is measured and paid on completed metres
• Hands-on field-based training provided
• Squads trained to our standard (we do not require prior solar farm experience)
• Initial briefing via Teams call before arrival on site
• Full image pack and layout shared via WeTransfer link prior to mobilisation
• Site induction and 1-hour review of duct routes on arrival
• Hands-on trench training provided on day one

Expected Productivity:

• Minimum daily target: 150m of ducting per squad
• Average productivity: 200m+ per day
• Weekly earning potential: £6,000-£10,000+ per squad

Requirements for Squad Members:

Plant Operators (2 per squad):

• Must hold CPCS or NPORS tickets as a minimum
• Experience with 14-tonne excavators preferred
• Expected to handle trenching duties consistently and safely
• Must operate within site safety parameters at all times

Ground-Based Operatives (2 per squad):

• Either 2 groundworkers, or 1 groundworker + 1 strong labourer
• Must be reliable, physically fit, and take pride in delivering high-quality work
• No prior solar farm experience needed - we train to our system
• CSCS cards and own PPE required
