We are looking for someone who is ready to take on a challenge, make a difference, and have a positive impact on those who use and visit the Central Library in Sheffield.
You will have excellent customer service skills and experience of IT and digital delivery. You will be able to demonstrate that you can manage staff efficiently and effectively, so that they also deliver high quality Library Services.
You will lead, motivate and engage a team of staff, overseeing operational delivery to a consistent high- quality customer focussed standard, both for activities and events, and Library Services.
You will have strong organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively.
Ideally you will have experience of working in a library, and a familiarity with the Library Universal Offers, and full range of services offered from libraries.
You will work as part of a team, across the library service, on book stock management, to ensure that our book collections are attractive, up to date, reflect and are relevant to our customer’s interests.
The Central Library offers a broad range of services to customers including a diverse programme of popular talks and author visits for children and adults, including for the Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC). You will be expected to ensure the continuation and development of the programme.
You will work Monday to Friday office hours, with occasional late evenings, and act as Saturday Duty Officer on a rota with other managers.
The Central Library has a wide customer base, which includes those, who at times may exhibit challenging behaviours. You will have the necessary skills to be able to handle incidents with diplomacy and tact to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
