Job title: Workshop Apprentice

Reports to: Workshop Manager

Location: Elland

Purpose of the role

To perform a variety of routine servicing, inspections (VOSA standards) and subsequent repairs to one or more types of Distribution Tractors and other vehicles/equipment. Perform visual or operational checks and carry out repairs as required. Carry out technical inspections or use technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to find and repair inoperable or defective machine parts, components or systems using test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • To display the highest standards of; appearance, manner and technical ability at all times.
  • To accurately and quickly fault diagnose and undertake resultant repairs. To include working on a range of makes and models.
  • To able to undertake vehicle servicing, repair and other related work.
  • To complete all vehicle servicing and repair documentation correctly, in a timely manner and to a good standard.
  • To be able to interpret and remedy vehicle defect descriptions communicated by vehicle users.
  • Where possible ensure a first time fix.
  • To maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.
  • Develop own competence to meet requirements of job.
  • To maintain and develop current processes and procedures in the upkeep of the internal documentation.
  • To work with all departments, particularly with projects that are being explored or implemented.
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose of this job or to support the needs of the business.

  • Able to work using own initiative.
  • Excellent observational skills.
  • Able to identify issues, evaluate and put solutions in place - problem solving skills.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure and with a sense of urgency.
  • Communications skills, both verbal and in writing, together with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Able to adapt to organisational changes.
  • Able to use a computer and the main software packages competently.

Qualifications Required

  • 4/C or above in GCSE Maths and English and another subject
