Overview

Wincanton are looking for an experienced People Manager to join a busy operational site in Worksop. The role falls within our General Merchandise division and is on our B&Q contract.

Reporting to the People Partner, the overall purpose of the role is to provide the site management team with support and guidance in relation to all HR related topics. The ideal candidate will provide a professional service covering all aspects of personnel, employee relations and industrial relations, while supporting a culture of continuous improvement, to ensure that all contract objectives are achieved and maintained through the performance of people:

This is a Monday to Friday role, predominantly site based, with flexibility for one day a week working from home, where possible. There will be occasional travel to other sites.

Salary is £45,000 - 48,000 p.a depending on experience. Candidates must have experience of working with unions, including pay negotiations.

How will you contribute?

  • Responsible for delivering a high-quality professional HR service to all on site.
  • Have a passion for coaching and supporting Managers in delivering the policies and procedures in line with site agreements and current legislation.
  • Support Trade Union engagement and building effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Team Management (1 direct report)
  • Key customer engagement on people agenda
  • Advise, support and guide Managers in investigations, conduct related disciplinary, appeals and all family friendly procedures (maternity, paternity, parental leave, flexible working).
  • Management of absence cases.
  • Deliver excellence by supporting the recruitment process from start-to-finish including assisting and coaching Managers throughout the process.
  • Produce / assist in producing HR Statistics and KPIs on a weekly / monthly basis.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships.
  • Produce and maintain accurate reports and records for all HR issues.
  • Support payroll process as required.
  • Contribute towards the improvement of processes and methods of operating practices within the site to benefit our customer.
  • Involvement with promoting Employee Engagement, Wellbeing initiatives and Social Value projects.

What will you bring?

  • Proven experience of operating within a fully unionised environment.
  • Previous operational HR experience.
  • Previous experience of absence management.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse/distribution environment an advantage.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of employment law.
  • CIPD qualified or working towards a CIPD qualification.
  • Applicants must be proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel and Power point packages.
  • Applicants must have the ability to problem solve and use their own initiative.
  • Applicants must have the ability to maintain high standards whilst working under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Good understanding of current employment legislation.
  • Applicants must be an effective communicator and be able to develop good working relationships at all levels.
  • Confidentiality and discretion are essential.
