Job Responsibility:

To provide a full range of cardiac physiology duties within a district general hospital, specifically within the field of Echocardiography, with the emphasis on patient centred care. The post holder will be supported to undertake the post graduate certificate in Echocardiography, completing the learning outcomes as outlined in the learning guides, progressing through a mixture of work-based competence and experience in NHS scientific departments and undertaking the complementary academic master's programme at the designated Higher Education Institution. This certificate will aid the candidate to prepare for and complete the BSE Transthoracic Accreditation process. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and unsupervised in all aspects of non-invasive cardiology, including ECG, Ambulatory monitoring and ETT. The candidate will be supported to undertake a post graduate qualification in Echocardiography, and will be expected to undertake a range of technical and clinical functions, initially under supervision, adhering to high standards of professionalism, health and safety, risk reduction, confidentiality, patient care and dignity, and respect for equality and diversity. Candidates will be responsible for assisting in the day to day running of the echocardiography service, as required and for ensuring the infrastructure and equipment of the echocardiography service is maintained in good working order and is adequate for purpose, including assisting with stock control of consumables. All candidates will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme, and for maintaining and developing both personal and technical needs, through evidence of CPD activity and completion of mandatory training. Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and brand new, state of the art Emergency Department is in the process of being completed. RESPECT - COMPASSION - TEAMWORK- PROFESSIONALISM To provide and receive complex technical information and interpret results for the care of cardiology patients and is a source of advice to patients, relatives and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support senior physiologists to provide clinical supervision of students and junior
members of the team, for routine investigations.
  • Works unsupervised and follows professional guidelines and protocols within the
department.
  • Provides support in the formal teaching duties as required for PTP students and
developing junior staff.
  • Maintain professional registration, by appropriate training and development
programs and to act always within the standards demanded by the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists.
  • To develop and maintain management skills appropriate to this post.
  • To ensure personal and team compliance with the high standards of conduct and
appearance required by Trust and Cardiology Service policy, including completion of mandatory training to level required for post.
  • To work within national and local clinical guidelines to maintain compliance at the
highest level, such as information governance and patient confidentiality.
  • In the event of a cardiac arrest, to be fully conversant with emergency cardiac
