The role:

The role forms a key part of the Aspen IT leadership team with global accountability for infrastructure and service management. This will include:

Infrastructure: Database services, platforms & infrastructure support, end user computing engineering & support, and networks, collaboration, & perimeter support

Service Delivery: IT service provision globally including ownership and management of a Global off-shore (out-sourced) Service Desk, Service Management Office, and End User Support

This large, complex role is both exciting, and demanding. As such, the successful candidate will be a seasoned IT professional demonstrating the experience and acumen to transform the function. The ideal individual will have the scope to be considered as a potential successor to the Group Chief Information Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Planning

  • Inputs to and translates organisation vision and divisional / functional strategy into operational deliverables and provides tactical leadership and support to managers to achieve positive results for the business in line with strategy.
  • Drives business performance through others facilitating effective planning, control and support mechanisms to ensure delivery of the business plan in line with market and shareholder expectations.
  • Partner closely with the Chief Information Officer, executive teams, function owners, and third parties to solve complex problems in infrastructure and service management as the key interface to our IT operating roadmap to optimize the value technology can bring to the business internally and externally.

Policy, Process and Procedures

  • Provides a thought leadership, consultative and an enterprise-minded approach to ensure the IT function serves as a catalyst underpinned by infrastructure services of a transformational business.
  • Delivers and manages the overall IT Quality and Compliance Management Framework to ensure that all IT work complies with industry and client quality standards as well as adhering to contractual, regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Manages the team's enterprise capacity to ensure that it is cost-effective and is matched to the current and future agreed needs of the business.
  • Develops and implement an appropriate governance framework to ensure best practice and compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Ensures that control reports and risk dashboards are developed and maintained for the IT function, to support timely and appropriate decision-making and action.
  • Manages the level of service availability delivered to ensure it matches or exceeds the current and future agreed needs of the business.
  • Helps to assess, set, monitor and review the business plan and annual budget to ensure cost effectiveness and to meet financial targets
  • Champions continuous improvement and step-change opportunities, to increase cost effectiveness and / or infrastructure flexibility.

Environmental Awareness / Customer Focus

  • Own end-to-end the strategic vision of infrastructure services and service management to ensure from problem identification through requirements definition and solution implementation is achieved.
  • Builds positive, open and constructive relationships with key stakeholders to ensure service delivery meets current and future business needs.
  • Works closely with senior IT management to coordinate strategies across IT and facilitate successful operation of IT delivery.
  • Manages the performance and relationships with appropriate 3rd party managed service providers and vendors to ensure delivery of a quality IT service on sound commercial terms which supports the ambitions and service expectations of the business.
  • Ensures 3rd parties apply appropriate standards and quality controls, so that their working practices meet business, audit and regulatory demands.
  • Maintains regular contact with cross functional IT teams to monitor progress and ensure clarity.
  • Combines business insight with emerging and / or existing technologies, identifying and prioritising value-creation opportunities to deliver service-value to end users and customers.
  • Develops and foster a service orientated culture within the department measured by operational and performance reviews to address areas of attention and improvement.

Technical Performance

  • Lead the global strategy for all the technology infrastructure components as well as looking after all the aspects of applications technical support, IT shared services, storage, telephony, networking and connectivity elements that are used in the day-to-day operations.
  • Accountable for ensuring ITSM process and technology are leveraged appropriately.
  • Leads the global strategy for service delivery ensuring key third-party vendors are accountable for delivery Deliver and maintain a prioritized roadmap and timeline, considering the strategic rationale, risk profile and benefits.
  • Provide creative insights, implications, and recommendations about current and future IT trends and areas for improvement, focus or investment. Ensure that commercial ambition is balanced with effective and rigorous cost management.
  • Implement a Global Operational Command Centre with Aspen ITs strategic suppliers so that all production services and cyber security metrics can be monitored 24x7x365
  • Develop KPIs / KRIs and efficient mechanisms for tracking and continuous improvement.
  • Acts as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise.
  • Works closely with senior IT management to ensure successful roadmap development and IT portfolio management.
  • Identifies and allocates resources to deliver demand to internal stakeholders.
  • Manages the process for handling and escalating security breaches to ensure any exposures are immediately resolved.
  • Defines, develops and maintains the overall Architecture Governance Framework to support infrastructure services.
  • Provides analysis, management information (MI) and reports to the executive team to ensure effective decision-making including understanding of risks.
  • Monitors return on investment on IT activity to ensure a positive return.
  • Identifies and oversees the procurement of infrastructure related IT systems / applications / hardware to ensure current and future business delivery.
  • Keep abreast of industry news and trends and perform regular market research to analyse the competitive landscape to proactively address competitive threats, inform the product roadmap and anticipate market trends and evolving client needs.

People Management

  • Provides tactical direction and support to operational management within own function / department or specialist teams to ensure that people, resources and processes are aligned with business needs and fit for purpose
  • Manages, resources, motivates, develop and focuses the functional management team to ensure the required standards of performance and support the continuing personal and professional development of all team members
  • Manages appointment, dismissal, performance management and reward of the management team to effectively manage resources within the function
  • Establishes clear accountabilities and authority levels for direct reports and build a strong culture of accountability and performance in order to ensure delivery of goals

Skills & Experience:

  • Specific professional qualifications (and broad business qualifications) at the level of degree or equivalent.
  • Qualified within own personal discipline, with extensive post-qualification work experience to include:
    • Working with large third-party vendors / external suppliers.
    • Managing relationships with internal business customers at a senior level.
    • Strong track record of technology delivery.
    • Managing cross functional teams and matrix management.
    • Interpreting business strategy and translating this into IT strategy.
    • Project management/ co-ordination, including managing multiple projects and complex projects to quality, time and budget.
  • In addition:
    • Significant experience in the insurance / financial services industry.
  • An entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries.
