Job Summary

We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of Genome Biology Flow Cytometry Technician to support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services within our TLS Analytical team.

The successful candidate will be working within the PerkinElmer’s TLS Analytical team, and will be responsible for supplying routine flow cytometry maintenance, assays and basic cell culture services to support GSK’s R&D programs, who’s focus is at the forefront of developing innovative and life-changing treatments to patients.

The role will provide opportunity to develop skills associated with performing, validating, troubleshooting and improving assay protocols, analysing and interpreting data generated from assays and use of automated lab equipment.

The candidate will work within a collaborative team environment across diverse biotherapeutic portfolio within the company and have the opportunity to develop in PerkinElmer’s scientific arena.

This role will report into the Genome Biology Team Leader and will primarily work within the GSK Genome Biology department on the Stevenage Campus.

Job Responsibilities

Operational

  • To perform routine calibration/basic maintenance of flow cytometry equipment

  • Culture of primary human cells and cell lines (training will be provided)

  • Prepare materials and equipment for use

  • Maintaining the efficient management of the laboratory

  • Operate to approved quality standards

  • Maintain quality systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved

  • To ensure safe operation of any equipment use

  • Compliance with all relevant working instructions, SOPs and safety instructions

  • To be responsible for maintaining an efficient laboratory environment and for ensuring health, safety and compliance standards are met and maintained.

  • To liaise with customer groups to discuss their requirements, agree protocols for new tasks, escalation to Line Manager as required.

  • Planning of own daily tasks.

  • Be an active member of groups outside routine daily role to ensure the growth and high-quality of the PerkinElmer support for GSK.

Qualifications/Personal Qualities

  • BSc in relevant scientific subject (e.g. cell biology, biochemistry or molecular biology) or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge of cell culture, cell lines, primary cells and aseptic technique

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Flow Cytometry

  • Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively

  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills

  • Problem-solving capabilities and ability to make clear decisions and good organizational skills

  • Self-motivated, energetic, dependable with and a clear attention to detail

  • Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team members. Ability to work independently

  • Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms

  • Ability to collaborate with other support teams

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment

  • Experience working with health and safety procedures

Physical Demands

  • Sit or stand 4-5 hours a day in laboratory areas

  • Sit or stand 2-3 hours a day in office area at provided PC/Laptop

  • Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery and in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasks

  • Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory

  • Work with laboratory chemicals and samples
