As a senior buyer, you’ll manage the procurement of materials, goods and services for the organisation, ensuring that you are optimising the cost, cash, quality and service. You’ll drive added value through sourcing strategically, value engineering, innovation delivery and risk management.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Negotiates price, quality and delivery, and terms, selects supplier and places purchase orders while assuring compliance to local and Corporate Operating Procedures and Ethical Code of Conduct
  • Leads the commercial/economic pricing negotiations, and contract negotiations with suppliers
  • Conducts supplier site visits and evaluates them as to production capability, performance, delivery, and other key business criteria. May support or lead supplier certification surveys as part of a technical and/or quality team
  • Monitors and evaluates critical supplier performance. Determines and implements corrective actions to resolve impending supplier failure to fulfill contractual agreements that may delay production or delivery. Resolves shipment quality discrepancies by mediating supplier/manufacturing issues. Facilitates inspections, substitutions, and standardization by arranging and participating in conferences between suppliers and company personnel
  • Develops and maintains supplier relationships on an on-going basis. Tracks computerized procurement records of items or services purchased, costs, on-time delivery, quality and performance. Evaluates supplier performance and recommends additions or deletions to the approved supplier database
  • Works with Operations and Quality departments to establish product integrity, performance and delivery measures to be used in evaluating supplier performance in assigned area
  • Identifies cost savings opportunities and assists in developing innovative approaches to supply chain management to achieve yearly cost reduction targets set by executive team. Participates in setting objectives for projects
  • Participates in Budget reviews and works with Finance team on setting cost standards for parts
  • Works with Engineering to understand technical requirements needed for procured parts and collaborates and works with suppliers to ensure these requirements can be met
  • Works with Commercial and Plant Operations teams in reviewing forecast and operations plans to ensure purchasing of goods and services are planned accordingly to meet demand

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in the related field is required
  • Previous experience working in the same field is required
  • Buying experience of raw materials and machine parts preferred
  • JDE knowledge and experience preferred, but ERP experience a necessity

SKILLS, TRAINING AND SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

  • APICS or MCIPS certification highly preferred; must have willingness to obtain if not certified
  • LEAN / Six-Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred; must have willingness to obtain if not certified
  • Familiarization with manufacturing and service environment
  • Strong professional relationship building skills, and ability to interface across the entire enterprise (Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, PM&L, Trade Compliance, Accounting, etc.)
  • Strong data analytical skills and capability of understanding technical documentation and standards (machine drawings, material specifications and classifications, etc.)
  • Proficient with standard business application software and specialized purchasing and/or materials systems (e.g. electronic data interface (EDI) or manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems)
