Job Description :
We are looking for a Camden resident to help us with our first site and become a key part of our offering in London. Ideally, you’d be interested in science or technology, but it is not essential for you to have any background in it. We also collaborate with other laboratory sites, so we need someone interested in working with other facilities and partners.
In this role, you’d be responsible for maintaining shared space to make sure they meet the requirements of the business and its residents. Your role is split between a facilities role (maintaining a safe work environment, basic lab equipment checks, coordinating with contractors) and a community focused role (enable events, support customers, give tours, keep tea/coffee ready).
We are looking for someone who likes to communicate and does not just wait for tasks to be assigned but who can independently pre-empt, find issues and fix them. There is a potential to grow with this role as we take on more clients and sites but for now, we are looking for part time colleagues.
Ideally you are available for after hour call outs if the freezer alarm goes off or someone gets locked out, as the rest of the team is not in London.
We are a very small team, and this job is not your traditional 9-5 office job. Our office will be open 8:45-5:15pm, so we will need to cover this time Monday to Friday. Your hours will be part time either morning or afternoon (8.45am-12.30pm or 1.30pm – 5.15pm) each day and up to 20 per week.
Essential Skills and experience:
· Great Communication – you will have to talk to lots of people, from scientists to contractors and council members.
· Organisation – you will need to keep an eye on the calendar and accurate scheduling
· Good Interpersonal skills – you will run tours of the site and encourage people to apply to join the membership as well as keep tabs on our tenants.
· minimum GCSE pass or equivalent in Maths and English – since you will need to communicate to tenants and contractors, as well as ensure payments are made correctly and interactions documented as needed.
· Computer proficiency: You need to be familiar with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, but we also use Notion and Teams so you will need to learn those. You will need to be confident in using social media (e.g. LinkedIn).
Emergency handling – if something comes up when you’re on site or out of hours you can stay calm under pressure and alert the right people quickly.
· Following risk assessments -it is essential you can understand and adhere to risk assessments to help keep everyone safe.
· Comfortable and able to maintain momentum working solo when others offsite and in reverse, with large groups in your space.
· You must be a Camden borough resident.
Desirable skills and experience:
· Social media work/newsletters – ideally you will draft these to be signed off. If you have done this before, we’d love to know about it.
· Events calendar& Industry trends- find and share with the team events we should attend. Keep an eye on industry trends and share.
· Experience in a customer facing role – please let us know if you’ve done something like this before and have ideas about how you can use this experience.
· First aid or fire safety training – if you have a current certificate for either of these that’s great, otherwise we will send you on a course. Refresher courses can also be arranged.
· Some scientific experience is desirable, but not required. Even if it is volunteering or a casual interest in watching or reading about technology.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit your CV/Resume and tell us in a short paragraph why you are the right person for the role (less than 300 words).
About Co-laboratories:
Our company is an acting non-profit, funded partly by Camden Council and private sector money to enable companies in Lifesciences to access Laboratory space. Traditionally companies must be a certain size and commit to long, expensive leases, which means many young businesses are unable to try things out and can fail. We aim to change this through providing flexible space and services to companies to help them get going, as well as providing an environment that means they can meet people that will further their growth.
