Would you like the opportunity to join our welcoming registration team based in the heart of the historic City of York?

We are looking for an Annualised Deputy Registration Officer to register births, deaths and marriages and fulfil other key tasks within our busy team. You will need to cover for holiday leave and sickness, sometimes at short notice, so it is essential that you can be flexible in your availability.

This is a time of modernisation and growth for the service, so this role offers the successful candidate new development opportunities and challenges whilst being proactive in adapting to new ways of working and ensuring a professional approach is taken at all times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • registering births, deaths and marriages
  • taking notices of marriage and civil partnership
  • conducting marriage and civil partnership ceremonies
  • naming and renewal of vows ceremonies

Applicants should have:

  • the ability to digest legislation
  • commitment to high quality customer service
  • good administrative skills
  • excellent time management
  • well-developed attention to detail
  • the ability to use specialist web-based applications
  • a clear, concise and tailored communication style, both written and oral

They must be:

  • proactive and adaptable in their approach to their work
  • appreciative of the need to follow standard procedures
  • able to work co-operatively with others
  • able to deal in a professional manner with people in a state of heightened emotion

Ceremonies are held at our York office and at other sites around the city including hotels, historic buildings and museums, so you will need be able to speak confidently in highly public situations.

Previous registration experience would be an advantage, but full training will be given to the successful candidate.

This is a 300 hour (per annum) annualised contract so too few hours to be split into a job sharing opportunity.

The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The postholder will have access to secure government sites or email. In order to use these systems, the Cabinet Office requires the HR Team to carry out Baseline Personnel Standard Security (BPSS) checks.
