Job Title: Chief Investment Officer Division: Finance - Investments
Reports To: Group CFO
Job Summary: Reporting to the CFO, the CIO leads a small investment team of seven, based in London. The team is responsible for all global investment activity of the group. Total assets for the Group currently total $10bn across nine group entities and growing with the business growth.

Key Responsibilities- Direct and oversee the management of Beazley's investments
- Drive the development of investment strategy, including proposals for approval by the investment committee and boards, as appropriate
- The Investment strategy seeks to maximise investment returns while operating within risk appetite specified by the board. The CIO reports monthly to the group Investment Committee and Executive Committee, and regularly to the Group and subsidiary boards.
- Manage the investment portfolio aligned to the underlying liabilities of the company and to optimise risk adjusted investment returns on the remaining portfolio
- Investment grade fixed income exposures, which make up the majority of investments, are managed in-house by the investment team. Specialist third-party managers are selected to manage exposures to other asset classes.
- Ensure relevant documentation for the investment activites is up-to-date and in line with the mandate and risk appetite as defined by the Board
- Ensure that portfolio dispositions comply with all specified investment parameters (ie. risk appetite and link to the underlying liabilities of the Group), and relevant regulatory restrictions at all times.
- The business is committed to pursuing a responsible investment policy and this is a key aspect of the work of the investment team incl. relevant reporting
- Ensure the efficient operation of investment systems and procedures, including compliance with all relevant audit and regulatory requirements
- Manage the investment team
- Manage investment risk and ensure that the assessment of investment risk in the investment and capital teams is appropriately aligned.
- Ensuring that that the investment team works closely with other areas of the business, including the finance, actuarial, capital & internal modelling, compliance, audit and risk management teams.
- Manage relationships with external investment managers and consultants
Staff- Ensure that staff have terms of reference setting out their responsibilities and reporting lines.
- Ensure that people are recruited, deployed and developed to meet current and future needs.
- Ensure that all employees have the knowledge and the skills and competencies necessary to perform effectively in their given roles and responsibilities.
- To discipline within Beazley Group guidelines members of staff contravening regulations per ‘handbook' or underwriting guidelines as required.

Personal Specification: Education and Qualifications- University degree
- CFA or other relevant professional qualification
Skills and Abilities- Highly quantitative with a mathematical background
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including MS Excel
- Good people management skills
Knowledge and Experience- Extensive experience of financial markets
- Strong understanding of the factors driving investment strategy in an insurance environment
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of a broad range of investments
- Experience of managing multi-asset investment portfolios within a performance-focused environment
- In-depth knowledge of various investment concepts including risk management and compliance, products, styles and asset classes
- Solid leadership experience in managing investment professionals
