Job Responsibility:

We are looking for applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic Behaviour Analysts who are committed to delivering patient-focused care and treatment to work in our inpatient Learning Disability service. The post-holder will work across our adult and young person's units as a valued member of the therapies team. They will lead on developing and supporting the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support plans, and helping to create capable environments which contribute to improved quality of life and ultimately help people return to the community. We are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to enhance their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, leadership and confidence in working in this area. We are therefore looking for applicants who either have experience working in inpatient settings with people with Learning Disability or have a good foundation of transferable skills and an interest to develop in this area. We especially welcome applications from candidates with the valuable experience of the diverse social and cultural communities the Trust serves as we are seeking to ensure our psychology staffing has greater diversity and better represents local communities. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their career and flourish as a valued member of the psychology staff group. There are also a number of support systems within the Trust including staff peer networks. This post forms part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high-quality innovative service to people with a learning disability and complex needs who have been admitted to an inpatient unit. The post-holder will be a highly skilled and competent worker who works in a non-aversive, person-centred and therapeutic way. Their main task will be to work within the inpatient units to facilitate an environment that improves people's quality of life and enables them to meet their needs safely and effectively. They will work with the individuals, the multi-disciplinary team around them and other important people in their lives to understand the person's needs, difficulties, and establish support plans that support safe and timely discharge. They will support the team's multi-disciplinary approach to assessment, formulation, implementation, and evaluation of an individual's behaviours of concern through the perspective of person-centred Applied Behaviour Analysis and Positive Behaviour Support. The post holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of positive behaviour support plans. They will deliver training and education packages to the person, the MDT and the wider system as appropriate. They will contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings, discharge planning and other meetings as appropriate. Additional duties will include active contribution to the development of the service and assistance in audit and research projects. Our Learning Disability inpatient services utilise a Positive Behaviour Support approach to help people admitted to the units prepare to thrive in the community. Clinical To assess behaviours that challenge others, including physical aggression, verbal aggression and self-injurious behaviour using the methods of Applied Behaviour Analysis and Positive Behaviour Support. To conduct assessments and observations, construct comprehensive behaviour support plans and intervention plans and implement and evaluate these plans for service users To develop and review positive behaviour support plans and to do so in conjunction with service users and the multi-disciplinary team when appropriate To use appropriate assessment tools for assessment and monitoring of input. To work directly with service users and their families, the multi-disciplinary staff team and other agencies to support the effective implementation of positive behaviour support plans. To hold responsibility for the development and implementation of Positive Behaviours Support plans on the units and to offer specialist clinical advice as a member of a multi-disciplinary team To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice and Trust Policies and Procedures. To present and communicate complex clinical information in such a manner as to motivate and inform clients, carers, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team /other professions. To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings Teaching, Training and Supervision To participate in regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines To actively participate in managerial supervision To actively participate in the appraisal process To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the Service Lead. To maintain an active engagement with current developments in the fields of Applied Behaviour Analysis, Learning Disability, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Challenging Behaviour and Mental Health To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health To supervise junior staff working within the therapies team To design, facilitate and evaluate training together with other team members To act as a key advisory resource for staff working with people who present with behaviours that challenge. Management, Recruitment and Service Development To act up for the lead psychologist with regard to behaviour support as and when required To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects as required and under the supervision of the lead psychologist To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed To participate in recruitment alongside Service Leads as required To contribute to staff induction Research and Clinical Governance To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in clinic work. To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects on a regular basis in order to help develop and improve service provision. This may include complex audits / service evaluation using qualitative or quantitative methods. To undertake production of questionnaires, data collection, setting up of databases and spreadsheets, data analysis, and the production of reports and presentation of summaries to colleagues using IT and statistical programmes, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and SPSS. To carry-out practice-based research using validated questionnaires, reflective scientist-practitioner skills, etc, as routine.
