TfL Operations Network Management Control Centre, part of the wider Network Management and Resilience Directorate helps to ‘Keep London Moving' by supporting and managing the movement of people and goods on the road, tunnel and bus network. We want our streets to be safe for everyone to use, pleasant places to live, work and move about efficiently.

We are a 24/7 operation that is responsible for running TfL Operations services across the capital. Services are broad and dynamic and include monitoring the network, running incidents, managing bus routes and bus disruptions, making sure our tunnels are safe and operating effectively and supplying real time network information to our customers and partners. We are at our best when we come together in response to an incident or delivering iconic events like RideLondon and the London Marathon.

Our Control Centre within the Network Management and Resilience Directorate is a dynamic, exciting environment. The diverse nature of the city is reflected in our teams and our people come from all walks of life.

The Role

This is a very exciting time to join NMCC our dedicated training team which supports our operational requirements as well support the wider directorate.

This role is responsible for the delivery of training programmes within the Network Management Control Centre and for maintaining resilience and proficiency within 24/7 business critical environments. The role will support in identifying, defining, and creating training programmes and course content that develops opportunities for new and existing colleagues. The role will support on all aspects of the training life cycle such as carrying out assessments, training/mentoring plans, maintaining comprehensive training records, designing, and reviewing training content.

  • Ensuring training programmes are delivered to a structured, consistent standard where staff are trained and assessed to be fully competent to carry out their roles, as required.
  • Delivery of classroom based and practical training programmes, supporting the creation of training roadmaps, training plans and general course content as well as updating and maintaining current material whilst developing robust feedback processes to identify further learning requirements and development opportunities.
  • The role may include covering other roles within NMCC to build capability, maintain skillset and competence, or when no demand for training exists.

The post holder will need to be flexible in terms of working a mixture of core hours (adaptable between 7am - 6pm) and shifts, including 1 in 5 weekends (two 8 hour shifts), three Late shifts (2pm-10pm) and three Night shifts (9:30pm-7am) every 5 weeks, to suit the needs of a 24/7 environment.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly attain the knowledge of the Network Management and Resilience Directorate including the Network Management Control Centre functionalities, internal dependencies as well as interfaces with other transport networks
  • Proven ability to deliver effective training / development to a high standard within a business-critical / educational environment
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills: flexibility of approach with the ability to work individually or as a prominent member of a multi-disciplined team in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to build and maintain a positive relationship with key stakeholders and trainees through excellent communication skills both orally and written
  • The postholder must be adaptable and be able to deliver training content in varying styles and environments dependent on the trainee(s) and training requirements whilst also developing their own and trainee(s) understanding of TfL's behaviours, Vision and Values
  • Experience of achieving results through developing a collaborative approach among multiple stakeholders and delivery partners
  • Experience of developing training material using a range of methodologies
  • Able to prioritise own workload without the need for day-to-day direction and ability to follow structured training plans and processes consistently from end to end
