Job Responsibility:

The role of day carer is working within a team of 8-10 other day carers, and leaders, providing a caring, stimulating and safe environment for all dogs and puppies through play & rest times. We work to a strict schedule to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner each day and week. This is fully supported by training, coaching and documented processes and procedures.

Duties will include but not limited to;

  • Day carers make use of all the facilities and enrichments available for the learning, entertainment & relaxation of all dogs and puppies.
  • Working as a team when preparing all areas and managing the movement of dogs between different areas and activities.
  • Continually engaging with all dogs and puppies whilst re-enforcing good manners and basic obedience.
  • Conducting daily health checks on all dogs.
  • Effectively monitoring and managing any changes or differences in dog behaviours, temperament, wellbeing or condition.
  • To ensure every dog and puppy is continually happy and safe in the day care environment.
  • Keeping management aware of any & all incidents, injuries, behaviour concerns, welfare or health issues.
  • Working as a team to maintain a meticulously clean environment for both dogs and staff.
  • Effectively capturing and communicating (written & media) necessary updates, for customers, on their dogs day.
  • To be involved in the introduction and assessment of new dogs and puppies to Woofstop.
  • Where a day carer has the appropriate customer facing skills, the role may also involve taking in and returning dogs at drop-off and collection times.

  • Enjoys working outside in all weathers. Is organised, thorough and accurate in their work.

  • Willing to develop skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrates a professional approach to own appearance and work areas.
  • A kind and caring nature.
  • Passionate about dogs and hold a genuine interest in learning about their behaviours and management of them.

Desired Qualifications

  • GCSE's or equivalent in maths and English Grade C/4 or higher are desirable but not essential
  • Relevant animal experience is desired
  • Applicants cannot already hold a level 2 or 3 in animal care as this will affect eligibility.

Future Prospects

  • Once the level 2 is achieved you will be able to apply for full employment in the industry or a level 3 in animal care.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

Things to consider

  • Must have own transport (or reliable way of getting to/from work) Woofstop is based in the countryside with no public transport links but in close proximity to Flitwick, Ampthill and number of other surrounding villages.
  • This is a physical job and applicant must be prepared, and able, to work in all weathers outdoors - playing with dogs, cleaning, moving. Uniform to keep warm and dry is provided (accept for trousers and footwear)
  • Some situations require fast reaction times, so vigilance and the ability to respond with urgency is essential.

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship
