Location: Hybrid working, with your office base being an NYC office with suitable facilities - our main office bases are located in Malton, Harrogate, Northallerton, Richmond, Scarborough, Selby and Skipton.

The Data Governance team has a critical responsibility to ensure we enable access to our information assets within a framework of excellent governance, exceptional standards and the achievement of data governance compliance in all we do.
Our Team
Our Data Governance team comprises one of three functions within the overarching Information team, alongside an Information Security team and a Cyber Security Operations Centre (Cyber SOC) team. The Data Governance function is primarily responsible for:
- Ensuring corporate compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act (2018)
- Developing and embedding data governance policies and standards for the organisation
- Ensuring a high standard of data quality across the organisation
- Ensuring effective Document and Records Management and Retention and Destruction policies
- Assessing and evaluating data governance risks across the organisation
- Managing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Information Sharing Agreements, Information Asset Registers and Privacy Notices
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven person to join the Data Governance team as a Data Governance Officer. We are committed to developing our people and to continually improving our overall Data Governance offer to stakeholders across and beyond the Council.
You will work directly with Data Governance colleagues, and alongside Information Security and Cyber SOC officers to support the Senior Data Governance Officers in the successful delivery of all elements of the team's responsibilities. Under the direction of the senior officer, you will undertake a range of activities, as detailed in the Job Description.
To be successful in this role you will need to have a good working knowledge of data governance practices, including those relating to the GDPR and data quality processes. You will be aware of the benefits of effective data governance processes, including Information Asset Management and Information Sharing Agreements. You will have some experience of working in a technology and/or data governance environment, be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels and be able to produce clear, concise reports for stakeholders and management.
