ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant and supportive Journals Editorial team in the Academic division as the Ethics & Integrity Co-ordinator. In this newly created role, you will be working closely with the Director of Journals Product, supporting OUP's Trust & Integrity programme, and assisting in the rollout and implementation of priority projects as required.

The key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Working closely with the Executive Publisher for Research Integrity improve and oversee processes for tracking and reporting on ethics cases in OUP-published journals, proactively identifying trends and refining investigative workflows accordingly.
  • Work with journals product on priority trust & integrity projects with a focus on trialling and implementing new integrity detection tools
  • Work collaboratively with Executive Publisher, Research Integrity, and Submission System teams to support title-level integrity checks
  • Assist in the provision and maintenance of template materials for use in common ethics cases
  • Support the rollout and use of optional detection capabilities made available for use by submission systems
  • Monitoring for potential ethics cases.
  • Co-ordinate the publication of Correction, Retraction, and Expression of Concern notices where required, including assisting with wording of notices and ensuring approval processes and policies have been followed.
  • Support the development and delivery of training resources on research integrity and publication ethics to raise awareness and skills.
  • Promote best practice in dealing with all ethical matters including correspondence with authors, institutional ethics committees and whistleblowers.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Demonstrable understanding of academic publishing - including issues of research integrity and publication ethics, editorial and production processes, systems, competitors, and technology required.
  • Experience with relevant guidelines and workflows (such as those maintained by ICMJE and COPE). Understanding of relevant software and tools (such as ScholarOne and iThenticate) preferred.
  • Critical-thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills and the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate with both internal and external parties.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently. Understands how to work cross-functionally and when to involve key stakeholders
