Job Responsibility:

Job Title: Operations Director (Further Education and Skills)

Overview:

● As a member of the Senior Management team (SMT), the Operations Director will oversee the daily operational functions in relation to Training Delivery across the company.

Note: Training delivery includes; Apprenticeships, Adult Skills Fund programmes for the employed and unemployed, and commercial training. We deliver training in the care, residential childcare, early years and construction sectors.

● To support the Deputy MD to develop an operational strategy for the business.

● To ensure that operational performance metrics are met in line with contractual and strategic targets.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the implementation of the company's strategic plan, developing annual operational plans with the SMT as appropriate.
  • Plan and resource the delivery of TRN's Apprenticeship and Non-Apprenticeship programmes and contracts.
  • Develop and maintain management systems and procedures of programmes and projects in line with individual audit and reporting regulations.
  • Ensure that programmes/contracts operate within approved budgets, monitoring and approving all programme expenditures.
  • Work with Commercial Financial Controller to manage all programme/contract funds according to accounting policies and procedures
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with programme activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.
  • Monitor programme activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the self-assessment framework.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of all delivery departments, establishing company policies, implementing necessary changes and adhering to compliance procedures, laws and regulations
  • Ensure the effective implementation of management systems across all areas of responsibility
  • Interpret and analyse MI reports and data insights to monitor key performance metrics and to identify trends and issues in performance.
  • Use data insights to produce operational action plans for delivery teams.
  • Line Manage a team of Training Managers, ensuring the timely and overall delivery of training provision in line with key strategic objectives.
  • Guide, mentor and support your team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ensure contractual starts, achiever and progressions volumes are met in line with minimum targets across the organisation.
  • Ensure the provision of accurate and timely monthly management information to the SMT.
  • Ensure the ongoing development and successful growth of the organisation in line with strategic business objectives.
  • Identify best practices and improve systems, processes, work-flows and communication to enhance operational efficiency and drive organisational growth.
  • Drive the operational implementation of new programmes, contracts and funding streams.
  • Working closely with the Business Development team to manage key customers thereby improving turnover and profitability.
  • Assessing the risks to the business and financial impact of any new programmes, contracts or opportunities.
  • To support the Deputy MD with representation at all external events, to enhance and strengthen the company's profile and optimise all business development opportunities.
  • Maintain and report on external factors (including competitors, FE developments, government business initiatives, current and proposed legislative changes in relation to commercial activities) which impact the business. Communicating such information and any subsequent changes to the Deputy MD, MD and the Board.
  • Establish close working relationships with DfE Account Manager and other key stakeholders
  • Management of the recruitment and selection process for Delivery Departments

Essential Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Impressive, demonstrable track record and skills/experience gained within a similar position(s), at a similar level.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience.
  • Credible and confident communicator (written and verbal) at all levels.
  • First class presentation skills.
  • Gravitas, with the ability to build strong external relationships to enhance and strengthen the company's profile.

  • Previous experience gained within the education and training sector.
