Within that department the Roto Artist plays a key role in the wider 2D team working closely with our Compositors to prepare plates to help them integrate all elements of an image, including CG and live action, into their shots. The role will include the creation of accurate mattes to extract specific elements from shot plates, either in a single frame or over multiple frames and match motion blur frame by frame or using procedural methods such as 2D trackers or Planar tracking. This requires meticulous attention to detail, a keen eye and highly accurate roto ability. This may include removing unwanted elements such as dust, scratches, wires, rigs, graining or tracking markers. They will also be required to fix retime artefacts using a range of techniques, and remove unwanted elements such as lens flares or street markings and security cameras in period dramas. Prep work can be highly complex and requires a solid understanding of procedural and manual frame by frame techniques in Nuke as well as excellent attention to detail. The RRW plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of both 2D and 3D shots for our high-profile independent and studio film and TV projects. They are responsible for monitoring and controlling the rendering process and managing the render farm's functionality and efficiency to ensure both are working to their optimum capability so that our projects can be delivered to deadline. They will continuously monitor incoming render jobs from both 2D and 3D.and progress and prioritise them in the queue system so that renders are completed correctly and on time. They will monitor the render farm's health and status on a regular basis and work independently of the artists and Systems & Pipeline departments to identify and solve errors and when necessary, re-run jobs to produce successful renders.

The RRW will need a good technical understanding, strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously to troubleshoot problems and find solutions. They will be proactive, self-motivated, able to review and prioritise their own work-load, work independently as well as collaboratively with both their immediate and wider teams and know when to ask questions.
