The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames and responsible for the UK's biggest port - 95 miles of the River Thames from the Estuary to Teddington Lock in West London. We work to keep river users safe, protect and enhance the environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel.
The Corporate Affairs team's mission is to put the river at the heart of the story and build the PLA's reputation as a trusted port.
Delivering communications and engagement with purpose, enabling the PLA's business plan priorities and promoting the Thames Vision, always uncompromising on safety.
The role:
We are looking for a Stakeholder Engagement Intern to join our newly established team on a one year fixed term contract!
Reporting to the Head of External Affairs, this is a fantastic opportunity for an intern to build their experience in the world of public affairs.
The successful candidate will get involved in stakeholder and political monitoring, using a variety of platforms and tools to report on our external engagement. You will also be expected to develop first drafts of briefing materials, speeches and other content for our stakeholders.
The successful intern will support the Stakeholder Engagement Officer and Head of External Affairs at external meetings and events.
What we are looking for:
You will be educated to degree level or degree apprenticeship, ideally in a related discipline (e.g. politics).
Essential:
- Ideally some experience in a stakeholder engagement or public affairs role, including working or volunteering for an elected representative
- A confident communicator with experience communicating with a range of audiences
- Curious and hands-on innovator, happy to try new things
- Able to balance competing priorities
- Familiarity with workings of GLA, Westminster and/or local councils
- Strong organisational skills
