Job summary

As a Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner within the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) Tobacco Reduction Service, you will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking or reduce the harm from tobacco.

You will provide tobacco treatment advice and support to individuals who want to stop smoking, reduce their harm from tobacco or temporarily abstain from using tobacco (e.g. during hospital stays)

As a Specialist SFT Tobacco Reduction Practitioner you will play a key role integrating tobacco treatment into patients routing care.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Your key responsibilities will be;

To help the service embed smoking cessation into routine medical care To be responsible for assisting clinical teams in providing interventions to help tobacco users to stop smoking or reduce the harm from tobacco. Ensure all Smoking Cessation interventions comply with NICE, and NCSCT guidance. Work cohesively with other services to ensure multi-agency working is integrated into Smoking Cessation Identify opportunities to develop and improve services for clients. To be responsible for the assessment, planning and delivery of a programme of tobacco reductions interventions to clients at the hospital bedside and follow up seamlessly into the community on discharge.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree or equivalent level of knowledge gained through courses and significant experience Smoking Cessation Training Level 2 or willing to undertake within 3 months of starting post Willingness to undertake further training and work towards professional certification

Desirable

Counselling qualification Training in relation to health promotion and/or health education

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in the NHS in the community or hospital setting Experience helping people with behavioural change and delivering health promotion Experience of managing own workload without day-to-day supervision

Desirable

Experience of working proactively and unsupervised on a day-to-day basis Experience of delivering presentations that are sensitive, delicate or contentious
