Job Responsibility:
This is an exciting opportunity to gain advanced endoscopy training in a successful and progressive unit. We are looking to appoint one ERCP fellow. The post is of one year duration although fellows can apply to extend their tenure if they wish to obtain competency in both endoscopic modalities (ERCP and EUS). The successful applicant will join a dynamic gastroenterology department consisting of 22 consultant gastroenterologists and 1 staff specialist who work closely with the upper GI surgical department consisting of 7 consultants. The endoscopy departments at University Hospitals Dorset (comprising Bournemouth and Poole) perform over 25 000 procedures per annum and both units highly rated at last JAG inspections. There are opportunities to participate in over 700 ERCPs per annum, and 400 EUS including interventional EUS FNA. Subject to the trainee's requirements it is also possible to acquire experience in other areas of therapeutic endoscopy such as enteral stenting, Barrett's radiofrequency ablation and endoscopic mucosal resection. In addition authorship of a peer reviewed publication will be encouraged and there will be timetabled sessions for research, audit and service development. Please note the post is Trust funded. For UK trainees it is recommended that recognition for out of programme training is sought from the local Postgraduate Dean, as the successful applicant will be expected to return to his/her local rotation at the end of their period as fellow. Eligibility for Full registration with the GMC is essential and applicants are expected to be already competent in gastroscopy and/or colonoscopy. As such the position would be suitable for a specialist registrar in the latter stages of their gastroenterology or surgical training (including post CCT), though enquiries from other candidates are welcome. This position is available for a period of 12 months and salary will be in accordance with the current SpR/ST payscale. Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD. They underpin everything we do now and in the future. They define how we treat our patients, visitors, and each other, our valued teammates and colleagues. UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme. This means that some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at interview. There is a planned move for this service anticipated during 2025. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions. See full job description and person specification for more details on the main responsibilities of this role.
