Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Highways Supervisor to join our Sheffield Account working from our Olive Grove Depot Sheffield, S2 3GE as a base, whilst travelling across our highways network.

Amey operates the Streets Ahead Highways Maintenance and Management service across Sheffield, which is one of the UK's largest local government highways partnerships. We are improving and maintaining 1,180 miles of road, 2,050 miles of pavement, 68,000 streetlights, 36,000 highway trees, 28,000 street signs, 72,000 drainage gullies, 480 traffic signals, 18,000 items of street furniture, 2.9 million sqm of grass verges and over 600 bridges and highway structures.

A Highways Supervisor plays an important role in working on various highways maintenance programmes that include carriageway surfacing (both traditional and surface dressing), footway surfacing (traditional and micro-surfacing), concrete roads, cobbled streets, and paving, as well as any associated civil and other necessary works. They collaborate with Project Managers, designers, and subcontractors to deliver a well-maintained highways network throughout the City of Sheffield.

The standard hours of work are 42 hrs, Monday - Friday. Overtime available and some night work may be required.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and effective communication with Project Managers regarding scheme progress.
  • Direct on-site operations, ensuring safe operation, quality delivery, and completion within specified timescales.
  • Manage subcontractors and traffic management contractors to maintain high standards and compliance with current legislation.
  • Complete on-site records, work with site plans, drawings, and building information models, and solve on-site problems.
  • Review completed schemes, produce as-built information, and communicate effectively with the public.

  • Drivers Licence
  • Suitable operational Health and Safety qualifications
  • NRSWA Supervisor qualification
  • Ideally highways experience or working in other sectors of infrastructure
