Job Responsibility:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced, GPhC-registered, Specialist Pharmacy Technician who has worked within NHS primary or secondary care (including community pharmacy). We're looking for someone that is well-motivated and can prioritise and manage their own workload, within a broad set of directions. You should be able to assess and analyse complex information, using your own judgement to formulate a solution. You should be persuasive and diplomatic, and have excellent oral and written communication skills. In this role you will work with other specialists and technical colleagues, alongside external stakeholders such as the DHSC, NHS England and NICE. Initially you will need to feel comfortable in approaching colleagues for support and advice, but as you develop you will work both autonomously and collaboratively to enact NHS Drug Tariff processes. This will primarily involve the evaluation and assessment of applications for Part IX (Appliances and Chemical Reagents section) of the Drug Tariff, and liaising with suppliers and manufacturers in relation to product and price information. We expect the post holder to be flexible in their approach, to be sensitive to stakeholders' requirements and to exercise discretion as we often deal with highly sensitive NHS and government decisions. In this role you will work in a stimulating and multidisciplinary business environment, where you will develop a wealth of experience to help you build a valuable and unique set of skills. Main areas of responsibility include the provision of information to support the Department of Health and Social Care Remuneration and Reimbursement Policy, and the processing and evaluation of submissions from manufacturers and suppliers for listing of their medical devices in the Part IX (appliances and chemical reagents) section of the NHS England and Wales Drug Tariff. The post holder will also be responsible for the collection, processing and monitoring of information related to pharmaceutical medicines and appliances, and their correct representation in the NHS Dictionary of Medicines and Devices (dm+d). Assisting senior staff in activities undertaken on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care and ensuring effective communication regarding pharmaceutical and medicinal products and medical devices, which may be complicated and/or controversial, is undertaken with Community Pharmacy England, manufacturers, and suppliers. 2. Regularly using pharmaceutical knowledge to research and compile information to inform the content of the Drug Tariff and the dm+d. 3. The evaluation of Part IX applications, including the assessment of the potential impacts on prescribing data and primary care reimbursement. 4. The production of reports to assist with the appraisal of Drug Tariff Part IX applications, which may require further consultation with the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and other internal and external stakeholders. 5. Liaising with suppliers and manufacturers in relation to product and price information. 6. Examining a variety of information sources and identifying any necessary amendments/additions/deletions. Inputting and quality assuring amended data. 7. Monitoring products in the Drug Tariff Part VIIIA and supporting staff in identifying potential additions, deletions and changes, and assessing comparative information in support of NHS reimbursement policy. 8. Demonstrating a commitment to develop flexible matrix working in a non-line management role such that the broad base of skills and experience of all staff are utilised to maximum benefit of the organisation and the individual. 9. Participating in organisation-wide working groups appropriate to the post-holder's expertise and experience. 10. Assisting with both long- and short-term planning within own work area and positively driving forward the development, management and performance of the team in accordance with plans. 11. Being responsible for the identification and implementation of policy, procedure, and service developments in support of the NHS BSA Business Strategy and Department of Health and Social Care initiatives. 12. Being an authorised signatory for expenditure (requisitions, invoices, expenses and payroll) up to £1,000. 13. Day to day non-line management of a group of staff including significant input to appraisal, performance monitoring and Personal Development Plan creation and execution.
