The role Are you passionate about democracy and skilled in managing electoral processes? If so, Southwark Council invites you to join our dedicated team as an Electoral Services Officer!
As an Electoral Services Officer, you will be at the heart of ensuring fair and transparent elections. Your role is crucial in organising and delivering local and national elections and referenda in Southwark, adhering to all relevant legislation. With the next scheduled elections for Southwark Council coming up in May 2026, your expertise will help us prepare and execute these pivotal events seamlessly. Your Mission:
- Organise and Deliver Elections: Play a vital role in the planning and execution of local and national elections, ensuring every process is conducted smoothly and in compliance with the law.
- Administer Annual Canvass and Reviews: Manage the annual canvass and periodic electoral reviews, maintaining an accurate and complete electoral register that upholds the integrity of our democratic processes.
- Day-to-Day Electoral Management: Handle the everyday activities required to keep our electoral register up-to-date and accurate, ensuring that every eligible voter is accounted for.
How will you make an impact as our Electoral Services Officer?
- Previous experience in local or central government administering electoral services will set you up for success in this role.
- Excellent communication skills in conveying electoral requirements, updates, and addressing issues clearly and effectively.
- Strong analytical skills to manage and interpret large sets of electoral data, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy and efficiency.
- A meticulous eye for attention to detail will help maintain the integrity of the electoral register and ensure that every detail is correct to deliver high quality outcomes.
- A passion for democratic processes will drive you to excel in administering and delivering elections that are fair and transparent.
- You will hold Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) certification or be willing to work towards accreditation.
- The post holder must be flexible and prepared to work additional hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays leading up to elections and during peak canvass periods.
- Strong proficiency with a variety of IT systems and applications.
- This role offers flexible home working blended with travel into our London Bridge HQ.
