Care Navigator / Medical Receptionist
Job Summary
To support the practice clinical team by signposting patients to the appropriate healthcare professional or service, working as part of the practice's multidisciplinary team.
The care navigator will be undertaking reception duties as part of the role, supporting the practice team in delivering a polite and professional service to the entitled patient population.
The successful candidate will be working a minimum of 25 hours/week, daily Monday to Friday as per the staff rota and must work as part of the team and be flexible to cover colleagues' annual leave/absence. Surgery hours are 8.00am to 6.30pm. Rota hours will include a mix of 8.00am starts and 6.30pm finishes. Salary is dependent upon experience. We offer NHS pension.
Responsibilities
There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent on factors such as workload and staffing levels. The tasks include but are not limited to:
· Process and effectively signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, depending on the presenting condition
· Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers' requests appropriately
· Process patient requests for appointments
· Process repeat prescription requests
· Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members and external agencies
· Use EMIS clinical system, Docman, AskmyGP, AccuRx plus any new systems to manage patient care
· Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required
· Input data into the patients' healthcare records as necessary
· Direct requests for information, e.g., SAR, insurance/solicitors' letters and DVLA forms, to team members
· Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
· Monitor and maintain the reception area
· Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested
· Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes
· Contribute to public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics) through advice or direct care
· Support the practice non-clinical team, providing cover during staff absences
· Action incoming emails when necessary
· Scan patient-related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients' healthcare records
Experience
Experience of working in a primary care environment - desirable
Experience of working with the public - essential
Experience of working in a healthcare setting - desirable
Skills
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Strong IT skills
Clear, polite telephone manner
Competent in the use of MS Office
Effective time management (planning and organising)
Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
