Job summary

The claims team is part of the MOD's Directorate of Judicial Engagement Policy (DJEP) which was formed to improve the ability of the MOD to respond to the increasingly complex politico-legal environment surrounding the conduct of past and present military operations.

There is now a growing requirement for DJEP to service an increasing number of complex legal claims on behalf of the MOD. Conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and historical operations in Northern Ireland between 1968 and 1998 (known as the Troubles) have generated complex litigation, criminal investigations, public inquiries, as well as a high volume of compensation claims. In 2022/23 the MOD received 6,897 claims and paid out £160M in compensation and legal costs.

MOD operates an office based working approach and along with the rest of the Civil Service, has an expectation of a minimum of 60% office attendance (3 days per week), along with working remotely.
