Benefits Advice and Financial Capability Coach Hours: 30 hrs a weekSalary: £23,153 (pro rata)

Peasholme Charity has a mission to end homelessness, and a vision that everyone has access to the right help at the right time to prevent the escalation of crisis situations - the charity defines ‘crisis' as lacking security, shelter or an ability to sustain oneself.

Peasholme Charity works with disadvantaged and socially excluded people, in particular those who are homeless or at risk of losing their home.

The Benefits Advice and Financial Capability Coach will work with clients in the community and in their own home.

Training and mentoring for this post will be provided.

This post is part funded by the City of York Council as well 3rd party funding streams.

Experience of supporting vulnerable people is essential for this role, as is experience of supporting people with benefits advice.

An enhanced DBS check is applicable for this post.

Key Objectives of the role

  • Deliver requirements of the ‘My Money. My Life...' project, with a specific focus on supporting people to ensure that they are in receipt of their entitled benefits.
  • Identify and implement initiatives that can support vulnerable people to develop their money management skills and achieve their personal goals.
  • Work with individuals and stakeholders to ensure people are positively engaged with the project.
  • Contribute to the promotion of Peasholme Charity and its services in a variety of ways, including social media
  • Monitor individual progress, using organisational tools, against the projects stated aims and provide accurate monitoring information to the Charity Manager at regular intervals.
  • Contribute to the development of high-quality support services for vulnerable people in York.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Support

1. Take referrals to the service from support agencies, including self-referrals when appropriate.

2. Assess individual needs and aspirations and determine what supported learning activities can best meet their needs.

3. Deliver activities flexibly so they best meet individual needs including one to one work, drop-in activities and phone contact.

4. Make relevant referrals to other services and community resources.

Partnership Work

1. Promote the project within the wider community.

2. Develop effective relationships with partner agencies and other key stakeholders and promote collaborative working.

3. Positively promote the organisation within wider networks and multi-agency settings.

General

1. Maintain adequate records of all work in the required form.

2. Participate in supervision and appraisal. Actively contribute to the creation of a professional development plan and undertake training relevant to the post.

3. Keep up to date with changes in legislation, local and national strategies, and good practice relating to the support of vulnerable people .

4. Actively promote and have a commitment to Diversity and Equality and respect the individual rights of people in keeping with the PeasholmeCharity's policy.

5. Work to promote a ‘safe culture' within Peasholme Charity and partner services and actively commit to the Charity's zero tolerance of abuse.

6. Ensure that all safeguarding issues are dealt with in line with the Peasholme Charity's Policy.

7. Take part in the monitoring systems for the work of the service and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the service.

8. Any other duties commensurate with the post and as required by theCharity Manager or Board of Trustees.
