Engineering Operational Excellence Lead About The Role The Engineering Operational Excellence Lead is a leadership role responsible for driving and leading operational efficiency and excellence within a global engineering services team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that engineering processes and practices are streamlined, effective, and aligned with overall company objectives. The Engineering Operational Excellence Lead will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, develop strategies, and implement best practices to optimize engineering operations. Key Responsibilities:Operational Excellence Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive operational excellence strategy for the engineering department, aligned with overall corporate goals. Identify performance gaps and inefficiencies within engineering processes and develop strategies to address them. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to measure and track progress towards operational excellence goals. Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the engineering team. Process Optimization and Standardization: Identify and analyze existing engineering processes, workflows, and practices, and identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with engineering teams to streamline processes, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve operational efficiency. Establish standardized engineering practices, frameworks, and methodologies to ensure consistency and quality in engineering deliverables. Develop and implement process documentation, guidelines, and training materials to support process optimization efforts. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, such as project management, facilities, operations, and procurement, to identify opportunities for cross-functional process improvements. Lead and facilitate cross-functional teams to drive collaboration and align engineering processes with broader organizational objectives. Act as a liaison between engineering and other departments to ensure smooth coordination and integration of engineering operations with overall business processes. Technology and Tools: Stay informed about advancements in engineering technologies, software tools, and industry best practices. Evaluate, recommend, and implement relevant engineering software tools and technologies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Provide guidance and training to engineering teams on the effective use of technology tools to improve workflows, data management, and collaboration. Performance Measurement and Reporting: Establish and maintain regular reporting mechanisms to track and communicate operational excellence progress, KPIs, and performance metrics. Analyze data and performance trends to identify opportunities for further improvement. Present operational performance insights and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders. Qualifications and Skills: Engineering apprenticeship/ trade qualification. Minimum 5 years experience in engineering leadership role. Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in engineering operations, process improvement, or related roles. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead and inspire engineering teams towards operational excellence. Proficient in project management methodologies and tools. In-depth knowledge of engineering practices and processes, with a focus on continuous improvement. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop innovative solutions. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies is preferred. Proficiency in using engineering software tools and technologies.
