POSITION: Lead Packager

LOCATION: Glasgow, Scotland

HOURS: 40 hours per week across 5 shifts. Days TBC

PAY: Competitive salary based on experience

START DATE: Full-time in January 2025 // Part-time shifts in November/December 2024

THE ROLE:

Rapscallion Soda is on the lookout for an organized and detail-oriented Lead Packager to oversee and elevate our packaging operations. With our business set to double output in the next 6 months, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring our unique, fresh fruit sodas are packaged with the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a hands-on approach to drive our packaging processes to new heights.

The role involves managing all elements of the packaging process, from goods in the door to the end packaged product. A willingness and energy to dive into the basics to better understand the complexity of our operations is essential for success. This role is suited to an individual capable of meeting the physical demands of the job while maintaining alertness to the technical aspects of the operation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire packaging process, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Train and supervise packaging staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with packaging equipment, focusing on canning operations.
  • Oversee fulfillment duties, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of products to customers.
  • Collaborate closely with the Lead Brewer and production team to maintain and improve packaging standards.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining meticulous documentation.
  • Manage inventory of packaging materials, coordinating reorders as needed.
  • Report daily production numbers and any discrepancies to management.

Lead Packager Duties:

  • Learn, manage, and lead the entire packaging process, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with the production team to optimize packaging processes and improve efficiency.
  • Develop and implement packaging schedules, ensuring optimal resource allocation and workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining meticulous documentation.
  • Oversee and improve quality control measures, including canning and fulfillment duties.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance packaging efficiency and product quality.
  • Manage supplier relationships, ensuring timely procurement of high-quality packaging materials.
  • Supervise and mentor packaging staff, develop and implement training programs to enhance skills and performance.
  • Enforce occupational health and safety standards, conducting safety audits and ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Maintain rigorous hygiene standards, ensuring all equipment is sanitized and well-maintained.
  • Keep accurate production and stock records, supporting site maintenance and development initiatives.

Necessary Skills:

  • Proven track record of driving improvement and innovation in packaging operations.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and motivating a team.
  • Experience in canning processes and fulfilment duties.
  • Forklift experience is valuable but not essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, including ERP/MRP systems, Google Drive, and Excel.
  • Personable, approachable, and able to maintain positive workplace morale.
  • Strong understanding of process controls and organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Physically fit and able to work in a demanding environment.
  • Proven experience managing/supervising a packaging or production line.
