Title: Macmillan Community Coordinator - Information Hub

Location: Macmillan I&A Hub in Hastings and home working

Responsible To: Health & Wellbeing Team Leader

ResponsibleFor: Macmillan Community Information Volunteers

Purpose of the post:

Age UK East Sussex are recruiting for a Macmillan Community Coordinator to support the development of volunteer delivered Macmillan Community Information Outreach Services in Hastings, as well as to build the awareness of people living with and affected by cancer in Hastings and Rother, of the support that is available to them, both locally and nationally.

The successful applicant will also have the responsibility of recruiting and leading a small volunteer network.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the delivery of volunteer run Macmillan Community based Information Services within Hastings and Rother that give people affected by cancer access to information and support according to their needs or are appropriately signposted or referring to other sources of information and support.
  • Facilitating the recruitment, selection, mentoring, training and supervision of the Macmillan Community based Information volunteers for the Macmillan Community Information Services.
  • Ongoing commitment to upskilling volunteers and maintaining the standards of the Macmillan Information Services.
  • When needed, meeting and supporting clients directly, by e-mail or telephone to ensure they are accessing the information and support they need.
  • Ensuring people living with and affected by cancer are aware of the support that is available to them across East Sussex, (such as through promotional materials, a monthly newsletter and networking), through active marketing of the centre.
  • Explore other opportunities to develop ways of support that is available for people living with and affected by cancer in Community based locations in Hastings and Rother, for example info pods, talks and other promotional materials.
  • Liaising and working with the East Sussex Healthcare Trust Macmillan Information and Support Services Manager on all aspects of the service.
  • Any other duties as reasonably required in line with skills, knowledge, and experience to contribute to Macmillan's wider success.
  • Maintain database records of interventions.
  • Attend team meetings, induction events, training, staff conferences etc and be aware of AUKES services and products.

Quality processes

1. Comply with the AUKES's quality standard ISO 9001.

2. Ensure that the service templates (standard documents) are used for administration.

3. Undertake regular customer satisfaction surveys and provide monitoring information as required by the Team Leader.

  • To work within the policies, procedures and quality frameworks adopted by Age UK East Sussex with particular attention to equal opportunities, data protection/confidentiality, safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
  • To undertake relevant training as required by the organisation and agreed with your line manager.
  • To be an Ambassador for the Charity, positively promoting the organisation and its services at all times.
  • To undertake other such responsibilities and duties as may be reasonably required by your line manager within the level and grading of the post and to work flexibly as required.

Mandatory requirements for applicants (note that we will not consider applicants who do not meet these requirements):

  • Minimum educational level: 5 x GCSE at C Grade
  • Competency in Microsoft 365
  • Submission of a Cover Letter as well as a CV with application.
  • Demonstrable contract management experience
  • Experience of brokerage and procurement for individuals
  • Demonstrable experience of constructive partnership working with voluntary, statutory and community organisations.
  • Demonstrable experience of gaining knowledge of local services.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, set efficient goals and timeframes and good at multi-tasking.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including the ability to write clear reports and communicate sensitively with people at all levels).
  • Full driving licence, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel throughout East Sussex (for which mileage will be paid).
