What will you be doing?
As a Volunteer Crisis Support Worker you will provide crisis support, both emotional and practical, using skills such as active listening, de-escalation techniques, conducting safety and risk assessments, and referring and signposting to appropriate services. This role will involve engaging with individuals during moments of heightened stress and offering empathetic, non-judgmental, and supportive assistance to help them navigate their crisis. V.L.A.D. will provide ongoing support and training to you to ensure confidence in your role and to keep an eye on any impact this role may have on you.
An enhanced DBS check will also be required before being able to take on this role. You will need to work closely with the wider team, ensuring that all interactions, observations, and actions are accurately recorded. Adhering to confidentiality as per GDPR regulations and ensuring you abide by safeguarding policies and other policies set out by V.L.A.D.
What are we looking for?
- Experience: Previous experience in a support or mental health-related role (voluntary or paid) is desirable but not essential. Experience in crisis management or support work will be an advantage.
- Active Listening: Strong skills in listening and responding to individuals in distress with empathy and compassion.
- Communication: Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt communication styles to suit different individuals and situations.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations quickly and work collaboratively to determine appropriate actions or referrals.
- Resilience: Ability to work under pressure and handle emotionally challenging situations, with a commitment to self-care and managing personal wellbeing.
- Confidentiality: Understanding of confidentiality, data protection, and professional boundaries, especially when dealing with sensitive information.
- Training: Completion of relevant training or a willingness to complete training on mental health first aid, safeguarding, or crisis intervention (training can be provided by the organisation).
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: £0.01 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 6 per week
