About the Role Reporting to the Head of Pensions and Payroll, this role is responsible for the accounting function relating to the University's pension arrangements. This includes oversight of contribution expenditure and departmental spend, with a particular focus on reporting for OSPS. This is a pivotal position, providing financial support to the trustees of OSPS, including the preparation and analysis of financial and management information. The post holder will also be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and analysis of contribution and salary schedules required by USS for approximately 11,000 active members. The Pension Finance Manager must demonstrate strong financial and management accounting capabilities. The post holder will oversee the Support and Finance Administrator in the accurate and timely entry of OSPS payment and receipt data, maintaining appropriate records and documentation. They will also provide ad hoc financial support as required.About You
  • Qualified or near-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), or possess equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated accounting experience within corporate or organisational settings.
  • In-depth understanding of pension scheme accounting, including regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, capable of working independently and managing priorities effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships with colleagues, trustees, and external advisers across all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-specialists.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
  • Flexible, well-organised, and committed work ethic.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively in a small, cross-functional team.
  • Strong understanding of financial systems; experience with Oracle or similar platforms and a willingness to adopt new technologies.
  • Desirable Experience of Compendia, People XD (CoreHR) Payroll and HRIS
