Job Responsibility:
We are looking to appoint a Junior Clinical Fellow in Haematology based at the Royal Gwent Hospital The successful applicant will assist the consultant staff in managing the haematology in-patients and participate in the management of day-case patients in the Royal Gwent hospital haematology day unit where the majority of chemotherapy is administered. The clinical service is sub-specialised into myeloid, lymphoid, myeloma and coagulation teams, and the applicant will also participate in clinics attached to all these specialities. The candidate will also be taught how to perform bone marrow aspirate and trephine biopsies. There is a no on call component attached to this post.
The post holder is expected to: Observe the rules, policies, procedures, and standards of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations Observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff Be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleague The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board's clinical Haematology directorate is a busy, dynamic, and organised department, comprising twelve full time and less than full time consultants, supported by specialist nursing staff, junior medical staff, and pharmacists. It based across three sites - the Grange University Hospital, Nevill Hall Hospital and Royal Gwent Hospital. The department provides a Haematology service to BCSH level 2B, with currently eight haematology in-patient beds on the Grange University hospital site, together with full routine haematology, coagulation, and blood banking UKAS accredited laboratory facilities. There are also haematology clinics and day unit services in both Nevill Hall and Royal Gwent hospital sites. The department has close links with the tertiary centre in Cardiff, to which patients requiring level 3 or 4 care are referred. We actively participate in shared care and patients are managed locally as far as possible. The department has developed referral and management guidelines to help manage service demand, an active clinical trials portfolio, education programme with bi-monthly academic half day and departmental audit programme.
