Job Responsibility:
We are seeking to recruit 2 locum Consultant Anaesthetists to join a team of approximately 35 consultants at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust based at St Mary's and the Western Eye Hospitals. Successful candidates will provide clinical services in anaesthesia, perioperative care, attending theatre and pre-operative assessment clinics as part of a team-based approach. The post holders will provide both elective and emergency anaesthesia primarily in adults. On the St Mary's site, consultants are required to provide anaesthesia for children over the age of five (ASA 1 and 2) for emergency surgeries supported by dedicated paediatric anaesthetists where necessary. St Mary's Hospital is one of the four London Major Trauma Centres with the anaesthetics service fully involved in all stages of the trauma pathway for adults and children. It has a general on-call rota set at 1:12. The Western Eye Hospital has 3 dedicated ophthalmic theatres with a mixture of local, sedation and general anaesthetic cases. The jobs are paid as 10 PA per week for a whole-time contract - 9 DCC and 1 SPA. 9 PA per week of clinical activities including - pre-operative assessment clinics, elective and emergency theatre work, peri-operative medicine including acute pain and MDT meetings and on-call activity. Work will mainly be spread over the five weekdays, but will include weekend and evening work. 1 PA per week of Supporting Professional Activities - including audit, clinical governance, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD.
On-call: There is a complement of 1:12 on the general on-call rota at St Mary's. There is a core training grade, junior and senior specialist trainee/fellows on site overnight and a separate paediatric anaesthetic on-call rota. We are looking for outstanding anaesthetists with a variety of subspecialty interests including neuro-anaesthesia, obstetrics, major trauma, regional anaesthesia, ophthalmic anaesthesia and anaesthesia for vascular surgery. St Mary's hospital is one of the four London Major Trauma Centres with associated surgical specialties, a quaternary vascular service and a busy obstetric unit. The successful applicant will become part of this busy department. The workload demands a flexible and responsive service to emergency and elective work within the operating theatre environment, emergency department and in remote sites.
