Job Responsibility:
Band 2 Front Office Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Post Full time - 37.5h per week. Working hours Monday to Friday 10:00 - 18:30 (will be expected to help cover weekend early shifts 09:00 -12:00 as overtime, 1 in every 2 weekends). (Please Note - there is no sponsorship available for this role). The Pathology department at Stepping Hill Hospital (Stockport NHS Foundation Trust) is seeking a Front Office MLA to join the Blood Sciences team to assist with processing samples that arrive in the lab. The successful applicant(s) would be joining a friendly and passionate staffing group providing diagnostic services to the hospital patients and wider community. The Front Office MLA role is based in the Pathology Reception and will primarily deal with service users face to face or via telephone and answer any queries. The front office is the hub for samples delivered to the laboratory from all clinical settings. The samples are sorted based on test and department that processes the samples. As the suitable candidate you will have good standard of numeracy and literacy, excellent communication, customer service skills and maintain confidentiality at all times. The post-holder will be provided full training for this role. Receipt, recording and preparation of a variety of patient samples e.g. blood, urine, faeces and other body fluids. Sort and identify specimens received in the Laboratory Enter/enrol patient's details and other data onto the computer. Assist the Biomedical Scientists in technical duties as required under supervision of the Biomedical Scientists. Perform general clerical duties associated with the work of the Laboratory, including filing, telephone answering, photocopying etc. Work with other team members to cover absence due to sickness and annual leave (this may include weekend and night shifts). Perform other miscellaneous duties under supervision and according to protocols laid down. Expected to work weekend early front office shifts, 09:00 - 12:00 as overtime, 1 in every 2 weekends.
