Job overview

We are looking for a motivated midwife to take a lead role in development and implementation of clinical guidance, supporting staff in maternity audit and championing safety and compliance-related learning.

Reporting to the lead midwife for quality and patient experience the post-holder will provide expert leadership by supporting safe, evidence based practice across the maternity service. The post provides an excellent opportunity to undertake clinical audit, work on quality projects and monitor and improve existing care pathways. You will work with the multidisciplinary team on guideline updates and development and you will also be responsible for overseeing patient information leaflets, providing the opportunity to work with the Rosie Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership.

Main duties of the job

As well as a strong knowledge of existing clinical guidance and its application in practice, the post-holder will need key skills in appraisal and implementation of evidence into maternity clinical practice, and subsequent monitoring of its effectiveness.

The post-holder will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organisational skills, effective IT skills, and the ability to work with all staff groups at all levels. They will also have the ability to produce, manage and present quality and safety related data. The successful candidate will be able to work within a busy and enthusiastic team, able to meet deadlines and adapt to a challenging and varied workload.

This is a senior midwifery role within the organisation and the post-holder will be expected to participate in the provision of a professionally competent, efficient and effective service. The post-holder responsibilities also include taking the 984 bleep and line management within the team.

Essential criteria

    Registered Midwife

    Evidence of professional continuous development and portfolio of learning

    Degree in Midwifery or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

    Masters degree or working towards

Experience

Essential criteria

    Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the maternity service

    Evidence of relevant clinical updating

    Evidence of leadership

    Experience of academic report writing / ability to interpret and apply evidence.

    Involvement with clinical audit

    Use of computerised information system

Desirable criteria

    Involvement with research

    Participation and contribution to local Regional/National maternity forums.

    Experience in engaging with service users and interpreting feedback into service improvements

    Experience of implementation of nationally mandated initiatives into local practice.

    Experience of using data to inform clinical effectiveness based decisions.

    Aware of current research and its impact on evidence based care.

    Conversant with NMC rules governing practice
