Canon Cambridge require a Proofreader to join our Studio Team. This position offers a competitive salary and the benefits of working for a global brand leader.

This is an opportunity to join the Studio proofreading team which provides a high-quality proofreading service for live question papers. You will proofread question papers in all subjects and at all levels. We are a small friendly team, working closely with our customer. We offer opportunities to develop your proofreading skills further.

As an experienced Proofreader, you will be coming to work on a Canon customer site where you will work to produce a high level of material to the required customer standards. A demanding but satisfying role there is some flexibility around working hours. The role is based at Whittlesford near Cambridge.

The work is varied and so if you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, being part of a team, and have accurate and excellent time management skills, then this is a great opportunity to develop your career.

The role is a 37.5 hour working week Monday to Friday but offers flexibility on start and finish times.

You'll ensure that a high level of Quality Assurance work is produced, working on both confidential and non-confidential materials. You will provide proofs that are 100% accurate to the brief supplied and ensure your team members also produce the same level of quality.

Working to a specific house style and working with the Studio Manager, you'll identify and implement immediate and effective solutions to issues and ensure that any performance issues does not affect the service level agreements in place with the client. Working through and maintaining processes and procedures within the in-house confidential print facility, you'll adhere to all ISO and BS accreditations and associated legislative requirements.

Having a ‘hands-on' approach to your work load you'll address conflicting priorities and will be able to react quickly, effectively and consistently in regard to Quality Assurance. We need people who can achieve the exceptional by working collaboratively, who have the courage to risk new ways of doing things and the ability to see the world the way their customers see it. We're looking for creative problem-solvers like you, someone who can ensure Canon stays ahead in an ever-changing world. You will bring to Canon your substantial proofreading experience and preferably working as a reader in a production environment. Please note, this is not an editorial proof-reading role. Being highly organized and able to work in an environment of conflicting priorities, with a reliable and responsible attitude.

You will need

As the Studio Proofreader, you will possess the following skills and expertise:

You will have a high standard of spoken and written English. You will be methodical and meticulous, able to demonstrate sustained accuracy and attention to detail. You will have comprehensive practical knowledge of marks for copy preparation and proof correction in accordance with BS 5261-2:2005, will be experienced in using Acrobat commenting tools and have excellent inter-personnel experience.

With excellent problem-solving skills, you'll have equally good time-management and organisational skills. With personal drive, you'll seek ways of producing accurate work, with consistency. Being flexible and adaptive as required and possessing good innovative skills. If you can offer the right qualities, training can be provided if you lack experience.
