Job Responsibility:
Tax Analyst Apprentice£23,400 plus great benefits (Work Level 6C) Manchester city centre (hybrid working)
We're looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Tax Analyst Apprentice to join us in Manchester to support with our direct tax activity - focusing on corporate tax, employment tax, and VAT. You'll gain hands-on experience in tax compliance, analysis, and planning; helping your colleagues by preparing and reviewing tax computations, returns, and documents such as the PAYE settlement agreement. We'll also look to you to work with our VAT team and assist them in preparing a quarterly VAT return.
As a Tax Analyst Apprentice at Co-op, you'll also spend around 20% of the working week studying towards a Level 4 Professional Accounting/Tax Technician (ATT) qualification in partnership with BPP. Over the course of 20 months you'll cover a variety of exciting modules; from Law, Professional Responsibilities & Ethics, and the Principles of Accounting to optional topics such as Inheritance Tax, Trusts, and Estates. This will all be underpinned by work-based learning projects and on-the-job training, and you'll be supported every step of the way by our team of industry experts. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable direct tax skills and experience, as well as a qualification that'll help to kick-start a rewarding career in tax!
What you'll do
- Help to prepare and review corporate tax computations and tax returns
- Assist your colleagues in researching and analysing tax laws and regulations to make sure we're always in line with HMRC
- Support with finding and exploring potential tax-saving opportunities
- Work closely with people right across Co-op, providing tax-related guidance to teams such as HR, Payroll, Marketing, and Strategy
- Spend one day each working week studying towards your qualification with BPP
This role would suit people who have
- Achieved (or commit to achieving) a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and GCSE English or equivalents
- Eagerness to learn and gain valuable tax-related experience
- Good IT and Microsoft Office skills (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work successfully as part of a team
