Job Responsibility:

  • Support the Clinical lead mammographer in the provision of an efficient, cost effective, diagnostic Breast imaging service, through effective management of staff, facilities, and innovative use of available resources.
  • Assist the Manager and fellow Mammographers to ensure optimisation of staffing and service provision.
  • Deputise for the Breast lead in their absence undertaking specific management responsibilities as delegated to the role by the Breast lead Manager or General X-ray Manager.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will take a key leadership role within the department.
  • Demonstrate excellent clinical competence with in-depth knowledge and experience of a wide range of mammography examinations,
  • Provide training and supervision of junior colleagues and provide advice and guidance utilising advanced knowledge and skills in this specialist area.
To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing an efficient and effective service to our patients/clients within the symptomatic breast unit. Must possess good interpersonal skills as the post-holder will have daily contact with patients and public & working relationships with a wide variety of staff, including all Breast Service personnel, medical staff, nurses, healthcare professionals, managers & support staff. Provide sound professional leadership to all staff within the area, working in close collaboration and cooperation with other health care professionals. To undertake administrative duties as required. To perform assessment mammography and interventional radiography, assist where necessary with all interventional procedures both in mammography and Ultrasound imaging, handling specimens when necessary. The Post holder is responsible for the assisting with the management of the Symptomatic Breast Service. Managerially and professionally reporting to the Clinical lead Mammographer, General Radiology Manager and the Radiology Professional lead, the post holder is responsible for supporting the development of a quality Mammography service that is efficient, responsive, and meet the requirements of the organisation and the wider community. To engage with trust wide Radiologists and Radiographers, driving improvement and efficient working practices using evidence-based protocols and procedures. The post holder is also responsible for ensuring that the available capacity of the Mammography service is sufficient to meet the needs of the trust and our stakeholders. It is required that they will assist in the Continuing Professional Development programme for the Radiology Directorate. They will participate in the managing of the Mammography staff in relation to rostering, annual leave, finance expenditure, appraisals, performance, training, and attendance management. The post holder will support the Image and Service Quality, establishing protocols and methods of measuring and maintaining service quality. The post-holder will be a member of the Multidisciplinary Team and will contribute to team decisions. They will develop improvements / service change, to implement and deliver a high-quality breast imaging service. The post-holder will possess the BSc in Radiography or equivalent with a minimum of two years post qualification clinical experience, be HCPC state-registered and hold the Certificate of Competence or Postgraduate Award in Mammography. They will possess or be willing to undertake a Postgraduate Award in Mammography Advanced Practice (Must be available to commence training September 2024)
