Post Title: Senior Technical Officer SBU/Department: School of Health and Social Work FTE: 1.0 FTE (37 hours per week) Duration of Contract: Permanent Salary: UH5 £27,181 with potential to progress to £30,487 by annual increments Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year Location: College Lane, Hatfield In the bustling and dynamic environment of Health and Social Work, the operationalization of technical and clinical skills development equipment, along with its associated stock, plays a pivotal role in supporting teaching and learning for a diverse range of staff and students in a Healthcare environment. Focusing on key course areas such as Adult Nursing, Children's Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, and Paramedic Science, the post holder becomes an essential link in the daily interactions with both staff and students. Possessing the necessary skills and experience, the individual is adept at handling routine services and providing support to resolve diverse problems. Main duties and responsibilities Responsibilities include equipment setup, troubleshooting, demonstrating proper use and delivering support during teaching sessions as needed. Supporting academic staff in effective equipment use both within and outside teaching sessions is integral to the role. The successful applicant will actively contribute to the development and application of teaching to facilitate student skill acquisition, utilizing effective approaches to learning and teaching. There is also a requirement to contribute to teaching sessions, for which full support will be given. Health and Safety is also a key part of this role, ensuring that practical classes are run in a safe way and equipment and facilities are well maintained. Skills and experience required This position requires experience in the provision of technical support and the delivery and support of clinical teaching facilities, complemented by knowledge of the requirements of Clinical Simulation. Knowledge and experience of working within a Higher Education Institution is advantageous. The successful applicant will have proven specialist expertise and experience relevant to the school technical facilities, and will have the ability to manage change whilst maintaining services and engaging with stakeholders. They will possess planning, organisational, numeracy, problem-solving and practical IT skills, as well as good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills. Qualifications required A minimum of A Levels (or equivalent qualification) or 2 years experience in a technical support environment is essential. An undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) or 2 years experience in a clinical or healthcare setting would be desirable.
