The Opportunity
Essex County Council's Children and Families service is recognised for a culture of working together with partners delivering a range of interventions which build resilience, remove barriers and enable children and young people to look forward to a brighter future.
The Risk in the Community Practitioner plays a key role in supporting the Children and Families workforce and the Essex partnership to understand and respond effectively to safeguarding threats made to young people from outside their family. Focus will be on supporting the social care worker, and Essex partners, to formulate the child's Risk in the Community plan where they have a young person who has been assessed as being high risk from exploitation, further supporting to embed the RIC plan in the child's statutory plan, where it will be further reviewed .
This role will also have a role on identifying themes and trends and supporting the workforce in developing their practice and culture in responding to Risk in the Community.There will be occasions where you will be required to work weekends and late evenings.
The Experience You Will Bring
- A recognised social work qualification i.e. diploma, degree or Masters in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent, with current registration with Social Work England (SWE) as a registered social worker.
- Evidence of continuing professional development, aligned to any relevant Professional Competency/Capability frameworks or Knowledge and Skills Statements.
- Significant experience of social work, demonstrating a comprehensive and up to date understanding of all relevant legislation, regulation and guidance.
- Experience of assessment and chairing meetings involving children, young people, family members and/or carers and multi-agency professionals.
- Developing strong relationships with partners, other agencies and the local community to achieve joint objectives and offer a supportive framework for children, young people and families.
- Proven track record of clear decision making in order to highlight and limit the potential risks associated with intervention.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
