Job Responsibility:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and competent clinician to become part of our friendly team at the Lymington Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) in the New Forest, Hampshire. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced primary care practitioner (nurse or paramedic) to expand their scope of practice to include minor injury presentations and gain experience in urgent care.

Lymington UTC sees approximately 31,000 attendances per year and this demand has increased since the COVID pandemic. Our department has had to adapt greatly to meet the demands of a greater influx of acutely unwell and injured patients attending our department. The service sees patients from all ages, and we are fortunate to have excellent facilities and an ability to manage a range of different patient presentations. Our clinical team comprises of nurse practitioners, specialist paramedics, doctor/GPs, as well as healthcare support workers. The team has a reputation of being approachable, friendly, and providing excellent support to all level of clinicians.

The successful applicant should be a registered nurse or paramedic with a good background of emergency care and autonomous practice/prescribing in primary care. The role will allow an expansion of your training portfolio and scope of practice to include minor injury presentations such as suturing, plastering, and reduction of dislocations etc.. For this we will commit to support the successful candidate/s with suitable minor injury courses, immediate life support courses, x-ray interpretation course, and mentoring/competency completion. Because we recognise that full-time hours may not allow the degree of flexibility to continue working in primary care, so we welcome candidates looking for part-time hours, as well those looking for full time hours. There is also the additional option to work in out-of-hours as part of our Extended Access service seeing primary care patients.

Hours

This role is being offered as a permanent contract. We have between 22.5-36 hours per week available and the successful candidate will be on a 4-week rolling rota.

Essential Criteria

  • Registered with NMC or HCPC
  • Experience working in primary care and/or urgent care setting
  • Prescribers - Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience
  • - Level 6/7 Independent Prescribing qualification with annotation
  • Non-prescribers - Minimum 3 years post qualification experience
  • Minor injury and illness qualification (ideally at level 7)
  • At or working towards Masters qualification/or equivalent experience demonstrating advanced clinical practice
  • You must be competent at taking a clinical history excluding red flags and undertake a physical examination of the patient for patients presenting with undifferentiated conditions
  • You will be expected to ensure that mandatory education is kept updated as required by the policies of the organisation
  • You will be expected to maintain a clinical portfolio that evidences advanced heath assessment skills and competencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - written, verbal (Particularly listening skills)
  • Clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload
  • Good clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis and management of acute Primary care presentations of minor illness and injury
  • Be able to clear an enhanced DBS check/ Must be authorised to work in the UK

Desirable

  • A&E experience
  • Interpretation of lab results training
  • IRMER trained
  • Teaching and/or Mentorship qualification
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of Chronic Disease Management
  • Familiar with Internet Healthcare resources
