We are looking to hire a Principal Grid Consultant who will work within a team on engineering and consultancy assignments for a range of renewable energy and energy storage projects.

What you will be doing.

The work will include providing expert analysis services and advice relating to, but not limited to, grid feasibility, grid connection applications and offer reviews, grid connection processes, grid strategy, policy monitoring, and grid regulatory advisory. The candidate will have opportunities to develop a team to support this area and work with colleagues from different disciplines and with experts and influencers from across the industry. Main responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead on all aspects of grid advisory and regulation across the global business with focus on select markets.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice relating to grid feasibility, grid connection, grid policy, and grid regulatory.
  • Prepare and assist with review, analysis and interpretation of both policy and technical data.
  • Support to manage the interface with the grid operator (System Operator and/or Transmission Owner) and develop Technical and Commercial forums with the TSO regarding Grid Compliance and ancillary services connections.
  • Coordinate the review, evaluation and approval of all electrical designs, inputs, studies and design changes.
  • Ensure management of design variations to the system design basis (e.g. through design review workshops etc).
  • Establish opportunities for additional revenue in the Projects through the implementation of optimisations in the electrical design and the delivery of Ancillary Services/ Grid Service Products (e.g. Reactive Power, Frequency Response, Stability, Inertia, other).
  • Lead on business development and proposals related to the grid feasibility, grid connection, and grid regulatory topic areas.
  • Attend regular internal meeting and external / third party meetings as required and build collaborative relationships with our clients.
  • Ensure all deliverables are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies.
  • Mentor and support less experienced team members.
  • Management of OWC's subcontractors where required.
This is a hybrid role split between the Glasgow office and home address, percentage split to be agreed with line manager.

What we are looking for.

We are looking for strong candidates with the ability to quickly master engineering software, knowledge of electrical systems and power systems concepts. In addition, the candidate will have:
  • A degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science, or ideally Master's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
  • At least 6 years or more of experience in utilities, infrastructure, power systems, electrical engineering, or energy systems.
  • Experience in the development, construction and operation of onshore or ideally offshore wind projects.
  • Experience of consulting, advising or designing renewable energy projects.
  • Any even high-level experience with power systems studies, engineering calculations and software.
  • Knowledge of the UK offshore market, particularly experience in electrical design or consulting works related to the current OFTO regime and future Holistic Network Design approach.
  • Knowledge of grid connection processes, grid policy and regulatory environments.
  • The ability to provide sharp analysis and advice related to how policy drivers affect projects.
  • Analytical ability with attention to detail including preparing basic electrical engineering calculations.
  • Good reporting and technical writing abilities.
