Job Responsibility:

Siren is an internationally renowned brewery which has shown significant growth even through 2020. The brewery is known for an interesting and high quality portfolio of flagship beers, but perhaps even more so for the playful and innovative collaborations and small batch releases which are never afraid to challenge preconceptions. We are looking for a driven, passionate and ambitious person to head up our lab and quality program. We are focused on feeding back into our process, so someone with a beer or brewing background thats looking for a new challenge would make a perfect candidate for this role. Quality is at the forefront of all our production decisions at Siren Craft Brew, so this is a very exciting role to be a part of. Key Responsibilities
  • Collecting all physical/chemical and microbiological samples according to the sample timeline
  • Physical and chemical analysis of all samples following EBC/ASBC protocols
  • Microbiology
  • Spread plate method for all process samples
  • Sterile filtration method for all small-pack samples
  • Performing PCR on pre-packaging samples and potential spoilage organisms detected through traditional microbiology methods
  • Daily yeast cell counts and viability counts
  • Recording and reporting all results to the quality team
  • Organising, shipping and recording report data for all samples sent for analysis externally
  • Investigating and reporting on potential quality issues
  • Feeding back into the brewing process to make relevant improvements
  • Managing lab stock and inventory, as well as ordering lab consumables
  • Liaising with suppliers, manufacturers, and external labs
Key Skills
  • Microbiology, Brewing or Beer background
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and standards
  • Aseptic sampling technique
  • Good admin skills, keeping records and paperwork up to date
  • Good Communication skills
Desirable Qualities
  • PCR experience
  • Biology degree
  • IBD/ICBD qualification
  • Brewery experience or strong understanding of the brewing process and brewing microbiology is helpful but not essential
  • Competent with Microsoft Office suite of programs
This is a full time role based in our Laboratory in the brewery in Finchampstead.
