Information Communication Technology (ICT) Apprenticeship Sheffield City ICT & Digital Innovation Service is an enabling and supporting service; supporting internal customers by designing, delivering, and supporting the right technology, communication, and digital solutions to make processes more efficient, effective, cost-effective and secure. It provides overall ICT support and development to the Council .
This year, we are offering an amazing 5 Apprenticeship opportunities to launch your career in the ICT service with a September 2024 start. The 5 Apprenticeship opportunities are available across the following areas:
Post 1: Digital Access - Managing our website:
Develop and maintain the council website. Writing content, designing layout, making it user friendly and accessible to all, improving its visibility on search engines and using tools like Google Analytics to monitor traffic and user behaviour.
Online Forms: Building online forms on the council website. If a customer needs to report a problem with a road, pay for a parking fine or register the birth of a child, our team has developed the form to allow them to do this.
Post 2: Digital Access - Telephony
Mobile phones: Building of the mobile phones and tablets for council staff that may need them and the ongoing support.
Microsoft Teams: Support and maintenance of the phone systems within the council, including Microsoft Teams. When a customer calls the council we are responsible in making their experience as good as possible from adding messages whilst they are wating to informing the customer what place they are in the queue.
Post 3: Digital Access - Digital Access
Customer Management System: We manage a system that helps our staff deal with questions about the council.
Customers can phone or visit the council for lots of different reasons, to report something, request something or pay for something and our team have developed the system to help our staff deal with all these enquires.
Post 4: Digital Access - Digital Engagement
Ensuring that the ICT and Digital Innovation's online presence is kept up-to-date, with content that provides information that supports and engages our audience.
Contributing to the creation of relevant digital content including newsletter and intranet articles ensuring compliance with Sheffield City Council's style guide, digital and accessibility guidelines.
Liaising with internal customers and partners to ensure customer satisfaction for content published on their behalf.
Post 5: ICT Delivery - Security
Cyber Security is an essential part of any business in the digital age and any device connected to the internet is vulnerable to a cyber-attack.
Understanding how to monitor & identify security threats, events and incidents.
Applying security controls and processes to stop threats and reduce risk.
Providing guidance to colleagues in all areas of the business.
Reviewing and contributing to Information Security policies, standards, and procedures including information security training and awareness resources.
As an Apprentice, you will:- Receive a great rate of pay whilst you learn
- Be fully funded to complete a recognised qualification
- Receive one day off the job per week for study leave at college (during term time)
- Receive hands-on/practical experience in an experienced team environment
- Have a great peer support network
- Have the potential to secure a permanent job with us upon successful completion of your Apprenticeship.

Qualifications: For all roles above we are looking for a willingness and ability to complete a Level 3 qualification in Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
