Job Responsibility:

Applications are invited from suitable candidates to join our team as Mortuary Support Officers within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology partnership. One successful applicants will be based at the Mortuary at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and the other at the Mortuary in The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, with some cross site working expected. The successful candidates must be educated to GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths Grade C/4 or above, have a Level 3 qualification e.g. NVQ, 2 A-Levels, Apprenticeship or equivalent working experience in mortuary or funeral directors. They must have excellent written and verbal communication and be able to work under their own initiative as well as part of a team. Experience of working in a mortuary setting, handling the deceased and having knowledge of regulatory frameworks is preferred. They will be committed to undertake all on the job training including being trained in the safe removal of hazardous implants. To deliver mortuary service duties To provide a comprehensive administrative service for the Mortuary. To act as Mortuary Receptionist. To assist with the booking in and release processes both administratively and practically. To assist with the cleaning and general housekeeping duties within the Mortuary To assist Mortuary staff with viewing/ identification requests. South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology is a partnership between the five Acute Trusts within the ICS footprint, hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. By coming together as a single service SYB Pathology will ensure all patients and clinicians across the ICS footprint receive equitable access to high quality, innovative pathology services, providing the best clinical outcomes. The partnership will ensure SYBP improves health outcomes, drives research and innovation, delivers efficiencies and ensures a sustainable workforce, providing job satisfaction and career progression opportunities for all staff. The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Histopathology department provides a complete analytical and diagnostic Histopathology service across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw region . Mortuary services lie within the histopathology specialty and provide comprehensive care to patients who pass away within the hospital and / or community setting.
