About us

The Department of Imaging Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary Department for neuroimaging excellence. We bring together clinicians and scientists who study higher cognitive function using neuroimaging techniques. Our goal is to understand how thought and perception arise from brain activity, and how such processes break down in neurological and psychiatric disease. The Department studies all aspects of higher cognitive function and develops cutting edge data acquisition and analysis methods.

About the role

We are seeking a Departmental Administrative Officer to work closely with the Departmental Administrator (DA) and to provide a full and extensive administration support service to the DA, Departmental Principal Investigators, staff, students, and visitors. You will oversee the department's public-facing reception service and line-manage two reception-based Departmental Administrative Assistants.

Taking the lead on day-to-day operational duties in the department, you will work across, and ensure effective operational procedures are adopted for a range of operations, including: coordinating staff recruitment and related HR activities; PhD studentship administration; processing general and research project financial transactions, procurement and expenses; travel arrangements; short course delivery; recording keeping; UCL policy compliance. This is an interesting and varied role with the opportunity to gain wide experience in Higher Education administration, and also offers the opportunity to lead on a number of ad hoc projects on behalf of the DA and/or Head of Research Department.

About you

The post involves interacting with a wide range of staff, students, visitors and other stakeholders within and external to UCL and requires an enthusiastic, collaborative, highly organised, and efficient individual, with a professional attitude, willingness to help, and the ability to remain diplomatic and tactful at all times.

You will be educated to A level/NVQ Level IV or have substantial relevant experience. Experience of financial management and an interest in the operational delivery of research grants is essential, as are effective organisational and time management skills, the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, and strong interpersonal and teamworking skills. Experience of line management is desirable, but not essential.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
