Job Responsibility:
As demands have increased with the growth of the actuarial team and Ascot, we are seeking a dedicated resource to focus on Power BI reporting and surrounding data engineering. This role will play a key part in driving improvements in how the actuarial function works with data to deliver real business value. It will involve guiding the business through the “art of the possible” with modern reporting tools, leveraging data to best effect to deliver new insights and capabilities.

The role is based in Ascot's office in the City of London and will be a hybrid home/office working model.
Detailed Duties:
- Design, develop and maintain Power BI reports to enable actuarial team to analyse data and communicate to other departments.
- Requirements gathering and development of wireframes in collaboration with users incorporating UX design principles to create intuitive, impactful and easy to understand reports.
- Provide intelligent diplomatic challenge and fresh ideas on data presentation and processes.
- Build golden semantic models for use across actuarial and the wider business.
- Optimising semantic models and measures.
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of data via testing and validation.
- Applying best practises from data cleaning to model creation to report design.
- Collaboration with Power BI Centre of Excellence to bring best practises into the actuarial domain, configuring to standards on processes, naming conventions, branding and templates.
- Maintain change control integrity and documenting models and systems from a technical and functional perspective.
- Support team in building their own reports according to the Power BI framework, including training in technical report development skills to actuarial staff.
- Training end users in report usage.
- Collaborate with other developers on report, model and pipeline development.
Contribute to data engineering activities.

- Proactive and positive contribution to the (Group) actuarial function with respect to culture and teamwork, contributing to the overarching objectives of the team.
- Collaboration with other Ascot functions as necessary, such as Data, IT, Operations, Finance.

Attendance at relevant industry workshops and training.
Skills:
Essential:
- Power BI Report Design and Visualisation.
- Building Power BI semantic models.
- Power Query.
- DAX.
- Experience working with enterprise data warehouses.
- Awareness of ETL processes.
- Programming/engineering/science/maths background.
- At least two years' experience within a related role.
- Analytical, logical and concise problem solver with strong attention to detail.
- Willing and can-do attitude, agile to changing demands and deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to see the bigger picture and identify opportunities to reduce inefficiencies.
Continuous Learner - ability and interest to keep up with rapidly evolving technology stack.
Desirable
- Data engineering - Pipelines, Notebooks, Azure Data Factory.
- Data science programming languages - Python, R, SQL, Spark.
- Data lakehouses.
- Experience in cloud based and on prem Microsoft BI stack.
- Knowledge of source control systems and DataOps, particularly Git and Azure DevOps.
- Familiarity with Agile/SDLC/DevOps principles.
- Insurance, Lloyd's knowledge and actuarial knowledge.
