Podiatry Practitioner Lead Band 8a
Podiatry practitioner lead will be responsible for the oversight and management of the podiatry team as well as provide specialist service provision for patients who require diagnosis/assessment as well as investigation and treatment of a wide range of podiatry conditions.
They are also expected to manage and update policy and standards, education, research and professional development.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have the responsibility for undertaking speciality services for patients who require diagnosis/assessment and/or investigation and/or treatment of a wide range of podiatric conditions.
As well as the role of the Podiatry Practitioner Lead being multifaceted incorporating key functions such as policy and standards development, practice development, education, research and professional development.
The ultimate aim is for Practitioners to lead and be the single point of contact/access for the provision of cost effective, efficient, quality services that meet the needs of all clients with podiatric conditions.

The role involves working with Tier 4 Podiatry Services and also developing strong links with Tier 3 services to enable fast track referrals into the community as a step down approach.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent qualification in podiatric medicine
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered
- MSc in relevant field
- IRMER trained
- To have ongoing evidence of continued professional development within the specialist field
- Leadership/mentorship qualification
- Certificate in local anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
- Radiological Interpretation Course (or working towards)
- Independent Prescribing (or working towards)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive post registration experience working at a senior level within speciality/complex area.
- High level of communication skills
- Experience working alongside orthopaedic and vascular consultants in a clinic situation or senior/advanced practitioners in specialist areas
- Experience in managing change or implementing change in podiatry practice or pathway
- Experience of involvement, leading and/or presenting Audit/research
- Experience of peer, student and junior supervision
- Experience in providing counselling to patients and to support staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of involvement in formal research
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Awareness of current initiatives within the Local and National health economy.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development relevant to this post.
- Advanced knowledge of referral criteria to other specialists.
- Relevant validated clinical courses to podiatry at specialist/advanced level
- Advanced knowledge of biomechanics, insole therapy.
- Advanced knowledge of high risk/complex patient care (diabetes, vascular, connective tissue and rheumatology diseases/conditions and the at risk limb)
- Advanced knowledge of casting techniques & topical negative pressure therapy
- Knowledge of strategic issues which influence area of practice at a local and national level
- Knowledge of national progress within speciality area
- Knowledge of audit and research processes
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the Governance agenda and NHS Plan
- Advanced knowledge of gait analysis, matscan/F scan or force plate analysis
- Knowledge of ABPI & Toe Pressure assessment
- Advanced knowledge of gait analysis, matscan/F scan or force plate analysis
- Knowledge of haematological & micro tests required and results
