The Hackney Housing repairs section is looking for someone to help us maintain the properties we look after. We manage over 30,000 properties on behalf of the Council. Your role will be to provide surveying support and help us review and develop information that allows us to achieve value for money and make sure these homes are kept in the best way possible for the people who live in them.
As a technical Estimator / Surveyor you will support a variety of functions to help make sure our work is cost effective and of excellent quality. This role will involve providing surveying support to works managers and supervisors to help manage operatives productivity including critical oversight of incentive schemes. You will be involved in audit reporting and resolving issues with operatives, as well as establishing and reviewing production targets and costs.
You will undertake procurement of supply contractors and material supply contracts including preparation of tender documents, schedules of rates and the evaluation of tender returns including benchmarking to evidence value for money.
You will support works managers in managing supply chain contractors including monitoring and auditing contractor payments, provide contract administration functions and support managers in dealing with any disputes with contractors including the pricing of specific works or variations. An important aspect of your work will be to identify risks and take appropriate action to prevent costs exceeding budgets. This may involve taking remedial action, working under your own initiative as appropriate.
You will help in the pricing of new work areas including the examination of tender documents, highlighting contractual risk and areas that need further detail. You will also prepare estimates from enquiry documents, bills of quantities, drawings and schedules of rates. Your work will help us ensure pricing is in line with agreed outputs and basic labour, material and plant requirements.
You will review data to help support contract compliance and do regular analysis of market trends. You will help us compare actual performance with tender assumptions and so make sure we are operating cost effectively. This work will also help maintain our schedule of rates for in house works.
